I'm on the search for a couple scopes. I'd like to have some
glass on both my rugers, both the RSI with the full length stock.

I'm looking at the Leopold 1.5-5x20, Nikon Monarch 1-4x20, and
the Weaver V3 1-3x20.
I'd like to stick with a straight tube scope. Anything else to look at
thats worthwhile? What would you guys do.

The earlier Pentax (made by Burris) scopes worked well for me when I played a bit with #1's many years ago. I used 2-8X ones, IIRC, and they were fine if not a bit heavy. I still own one on a Ruger M77 RSI 243.

I really like the older Leupold M8 4x28 “long tube” scopes in Ruger #1s. The longer scope gives much more mounting latitude.

I have a handful of No.1's and prefer low power variables on them. Though I prefer the optics of the Leupold 1-4 / 1.5-5, my No.1's all have Nikon 1-4's due to their longer tube length.

Leupold Big Bore fixed 3x. A longer tube and a little more eye relief. I mounted one on my Savage 99 and it works better for mounting than my VX-II 1x4 did.

Custom Shop I think for the 3x. You can still find the M8's on ebay most of the time.

Jack here's the thing on No.1's: You need lots of eye relief and tube length, but it also depends a great deal on how you are built. If you have a short neck, you will almost certainly have a harder time finding a scope. I have found that I need and offset ring in order to use some scopes that others have great success with, that would include a 4x28 Leupold, an M8 3x and a VX3 1.5-5. With an offset they work fine. Without the offset, what I have had success with is a 3x36 Leupold, a Nikon Omega, an original Burris Fullfield 3-9 and some old Weavers. Also the 2-7 Leupold worked well up to about 5x.

So the bottom line from my experience: Try the 1.5-5 or 3x Leupold and be prepared to use an offset ring. Actually a 2.5 Leupold might work also, but I've not tried one.

YMMV.

Well I'm about 6 foot 1, gangly with a longer neck. I have a fx2 4x scope on
my no1 .280 and it works fine. Maybe I'll try another leupy and something different.

Call the Leupold custom shop and ask them. My Big Bore has the heavy duplex and I like it.

I was quite happy with the 1.5-5x Leupold on my Number One:

But replaced it with an older 3x Leupold last year, which has also worked out real well. The only reason I changed scopes is that I wanted the 1.5-5x on a different rifle.

I had a Leupold 1-1.5x20 on my 1A 7x57 but the scope had to be sat rearward as far as possible to get a clear sight picture. I didn't like the way the rifle looked with the scope that way. It sort of looked uneven. The pics from GuyM show it really well. The rear ocular bell hangs rearwards a long way and covers the loading port. I replaced it with a 6x36 Loopy and I find it ideal. I like fixed power scopes on my single shots as it just simplifies things. I have a 4x33 on my 1S 9.3x62. I need to lean forwards half a smidgen to look through the scope when shouldered but I don't even notice it when out hunting.
