A good day to you all here.
I find myself in a bit of a bind here. I am trying to restore an old Stanley router plane, and the threads in one of the blade locking holes is damaged. I believe that running an appropriate tap through it should rectify the issue, but the bolt used is an oddball, namely a UNS 3/16 - 28TPI.
I can source taps to do the task, but being very unfamiliar with all of this, am in a quandary when confronted with different tap types. Three types are available, a tapered tap, second tap and a plug tap.
Which one do I need to do this task?
Any help, advice or enlightenment on this topic would be greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance.

If it's a thru hole the tapered would work and be easiest to start,if it's blind hole the plug will get you threads to the bottom.

If you can't repair the hole by running a tap through it and have enough room to make the hole the larger this insert is an alternative...

A plug tap is the mid one, if you want to get to the bottom, use a bottom tap.. That sounds like a standard 10-28 tap

Stanley planes do not use standard threads. They had their own oddball sizes.
Probaly going to have to drill old threads out and retap hole with larger size.
