A STEVENS 200 in .223 Remington....that rifle is fun and I can hit what I want with it 300 to 400 yards with a simple Simmons 3-9x50.

Remington 700 from the late 60's

The barrel has almost all the blue worn off. The vx1 3-9x40 sitting on top does not care.

It will put 5, Hornady 87 grain hpbt into 3/4.... if I try....then... 1/2 of an inch at 100 yds. same for 95 grain SST's......both loads 2,800 fps....

I can hit pretty well with it .......keeping the buck fever under control...LOL

This one has gotten to be so much of a no-brainer, that I'm thinking seriously of leaving it out of the rotation this coming year just so I have more time to work with other projects.

I try to give everyone a shot at a hunt. I always take at least two rifles for every hunt and alternate who goes with me. I have several favorites, the all time favorite is a tie between a few Kimber Montanas (280AI, 308, 30-06) and an old Rem 700 in 35 Whelen in a Ti original stock. Second fav is probably my T3 in 270 Win.

However, the rifles that give me the very best hunt feeling is the Savage 99. Those rifles just sing in my hands and feel like a hunting partner.

Gotta be my Remington 700 SA with a 24” shilen in 250-3000 ai. Shoots 100 grain Nosler partitions at 3200 fps and does a number on deer, speed goats etc. sits in a bell and carlson medalist stock and just shoots and kills what I point it at. Low recoil, 3x10x40 weaver grandslam for glass.

Mine is a Remington Model 7 SS in 260 Remington with a 3-9X Leupold compact. It is light, handles great, is accurate enough and has never let me down - no matter the terrain weather or animal shot. I hunt with a bunch of other rifles but if I want to put meat in the freezer this is the one I’ve grabed for the last 20 years.

ULA, LH 270 WSM

Right now it is a BACO USA built M70 Ult Shadow 270, 130gr pre BT Nozzler FBSP's over the H4831 bottle load of 60gr's & I'm using WLR's to set it off & gives reliable repeatable barely sub MOA's when I'm taking care of my end...and will give you a little "pop" on the older than dirt shoulder to see if you are alert...and the primers are still nicely rounded on the edges.

Got a XTR M70 7x57 , and a T3 6.5x55 Super Lite , that both are showing promise but no seriousl load work done so far. Gonna be an interesting year.

Sako Model 75 Hunter Stainless , .270win, w/ Swarovski AV 4-12x50. The package just works, everytime. Have not adjusted the scope more than a couple clicks in 10 years.
Had not shot it for 2 years and dropped a 175lb boar at 225 the other day. Probably last gun I would sell.

I've only seen two problems with Ruger M77/MKII/Hawkeye rifles. The first was my buddies MKII - he would store it in the cocked position and after some years the spring took a set. The rifle went 'click' on two animals I can think of. Took me three or four years to convince home to swap out the firing pin spring. When we did, the new one was two inches longer than the one we removed. He doesn't store it in the cocked position any more.

The other was with my .257 Roberts, a 1989 M77. It developed a problem where the bolt handle would lift part way but then you had to jiggle it to get it to open all the way so the bolt could be retracted. Sent it to Ruger and they had it back in two weeks, functioning perfectly.

A rifle that goes 'bang' is much more important than the cartridge.

I wish I could remember what Forum and Thread to post this into the discussion. This is NOT the first time I've heard about springs taking a set 'under tension' and becoming weak or shorter.

Any rifle I own. They are all accurate and reliable

No use having a rifle that not accurate unless it’s a keepsake.

M70 Classic SM .270 Winchester. I call it "Old Death" as it doesn't miss, and kills stuff real dead. Leupold Vari-X II 3-9 on it. It lives in a B&C stock now. Reliable, accurate, and all I need for a whitetailed deer. Backup is a Marlin 336SC .30/30, nothing fancy at all, just like the Winchester.

Dull and boring works......................................and works well.
