I just quoted his conclusion. The most important part. laugh laugh

Seriously, he likes the 280 AI but that was not the last one he’d sell.

What's the advantage of 280AI over 7 Mag? Does it not require as long of a barrel? Or is it longer lasting brass?

The last one would be my Mauser M03 7x57, 30-06, 8x68S and 375 H&H

No real advantage. Velocities favor the 7 Rem Mag by a little, and other 7 Mags by quite a bit.

But there are some things people like about the 280AI.

It does most of what the 7 Rem Mag does with quite a bit less powder, and a bit less recoil.

The non-belted case feeds smoother, brass lasts longer, and the cases seldom need trimming.

And the 280AI rifle can usually hold an extra round in the magazine.

I can't play this game. I've got what I want, don't see getting rid of any of what I have. Most probably won't get used between now and the time I kick, but.... I'll still have them.

I thoroughly understand that. This mental chess game helps some to ‘rank’, or prioritize his guns & or applications.

I really hope that I don’t have to be REDUCED to owning just ONE rifle.

I was there once so I know I could ‘get by’ but having a variety of firearms is fun and some are better suited for some situations than others.

If I HAD to sell 1 rifle I think I know which one it’d be. Beyond that it becomes exscruciatingly painful.

Another one that I'd be very hard pressed to sell off would be a Pre 64 M70 7MM carbine. It's just a handy little rifle in a great caliber.

When I married my wife, my FIL had an old Remington 721 30-06. Didn't even have a scope, he was already old by then. I took his rifle and mounted a brand new (at the time) Redfield 5 star scope on it, (just in case) if he ever got a chance to shoot it again. He passed it on to my son, who was by far his youngest grandson. Even though he never got to shoot it, he had it. That was good enough. I feel the same way. Even then I have 2 of 2 calibers just in case. smile

Geez. That's like asking a man which child he'd keep if allowed to keep only one..... All Right. It's toss up between the custom Ruger .280 w/ 6X42 Leupold or the M1A Squad Scout .308 w/ Leupold 1.5-4X VX2 Scout Scope. If you really make me, it would be the M1A. E

It's not "cool" and it's definitely sentimental but it'd be my post-64 Win M94 30-30 w/ its proven Leupold M8 4x scope atop. It was my first centerfire and, with handloads, can do anything I need from small to big game.

I wouldn’t sell my most 2 practical rifles.
Tikka stainless 30/06 and ruger 10/22.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

For me it would be my .300 Weatherby Accumark. It's not my oldest or prettiest but I've done a lot of hunting with it. It's been accurate, reliable and tough. Its beginning to show the mileage on it. I especially like it because it puts game right down, right now.

It's a toss up. I have an old Savage110E in .270 that my dad gave me as my first rifle. It was my only centerfire rifle until about ten years ago. I killed a lot of stuff with it. The first rifle that I ever bought was a Yugoslavian M48 Mauser from a local surplus place for $179.00 about ten years ago. That rifle and I have gone on a lot of big hunts together and it has never let me down. It has taken red stag, mule deer, white tails, aoudad, and a whole pile of pigs. I have a safe FULL of guns, and nine times out of ten, the Yugo gets the call. Sometimes I wonder why I ever bought any of the others. Then I come to my senses and remember that I just NEED all of those guns.

For me it would be my 722 in 257 Roberts. I have alot of nicer rifles, but that little 257 is a tack driver and kills stuff with authority.
