I have a Keith Stegall rifle in 25/06 that won't shoot heavier bullets at all. I checked and it is a 12 twist so I need to load some lighter bullets for deer hunting.

I have some Speer 87 grain soft points that I will load along with some 100gr Hornady. Also interested in the 80 grain solid copper offerings--

My question is does the length of the bullet matter or is bullet weight the deciding factor in what this barrel should stabilize?

Thanks,
Gene

Yep, length--but it should also be noted that a plastic doesn't count much in overall length, because they weigh so little. The formula on JBM's website includes a place for the length of the tip.

Yeah, it's really a moment of inertia thing.

Based on Mule Deer's sage advice when I asked a similar question a few years ago, I ended up trying the 100 grain Partitions and 100 grain Interlocks in a 1-14 twist. The Partitions ended up the winner in the accuracy department and have done well on some big hogs and whitetails in the field.

Try some Barnes TSX or TTSX. They are long for their weight.

That's backwards. With the slow twist he needs short for weight bullets.
