Is Tikka making a 2.5" plus OEM mag. for their T3 in .223 these days?
Thought I saw something written about that awhile back, but can't find it now..

NOT interested in a any of the high priced aftermarket 2.6" mags. or going with a new floor plate to accommodate a AIC style mag..

Thanks

Give Jason a call over at Mountain Tactical 406-285-2371, I am sure he could answer your question! He just started shipping his new aluminum mags too!

The mag issue was something we discussed at SHOT. I will say the conversation was good, but no promises. The liked the idea enough to keep the rifle/mag in the back room so they could discuss further.

FYI -- the CTR (and TAC A1) will be coming in 223 this year. Sometime, don't know when -- and we're not taking orders yet! The CTR 223 magazine allows ample room for high BC bullets. We didn't have tools to get an exact measurement, but it was at least 1/4" more space than the standard T3X 223 magazine.

SAS,
This may be a dumb question, but why does it take manufacturers so long to address a simple issue like magazine space. I mean, it's not like this issue cropped up over night. Are they just not paying attention to the trends in the shooting world and how people are using their products? Granted, I have no idea what it takes to make changes on the manufacturing end of things but Tikka's mag space issue seems like a simple fix. Yet it literally takes years for changes to happen. What's your insight on this since you get to speak to them face to face?

I'd bet that 99% of the people that own Tikkas wouldn't know anything about a mag space "problem"

I have a Tikka T3 .223 in a 1/10 twist. I loaded up some Sierra 69 gr tipped MatchKings recently. I was able to load them to an OAL of 2.300 which was barely short enough to get them to feed from the magazine. With that said, I see the Mountain Tactical mags are 2.260? What are they solving that the Tikka mags haven't other than being metal?

I don't know any that make a 2.60" 223 mag box.

2.5" is plenty, and Tikka should have made theirs that way to begin with.
