I'm on my 3rd Tikka which says a lot of what I think of them (so this is not a bashing thread). In preparation to mounting a scope, I've hit a snag removing one of the slotted studs in the top of the receiver. The stud is so soft that instead of backing out, my slotted screwdriver is chewing it up (yes, I used a properly fitting screwdriver). Has anyone come across this problem? Do they even make a tap and die set small enough to remove these? I'd welcome any suggestions as I suspect I'm going to be facing a gunsmith bill for drilling out the stud and retapping to a larger size which in turn will require modifying the mounts. Thoughts?

Unless they have changed the screwed... they are really plastic plugs. If they don’t back out easy... I screw them all the way through the receiver and pick the out of the action/ magazine.....is a small screw driver

Or, keep it simple and use Warnes. No base screws to break or loosen

I've had to pick them out before too. Just use a small needle or something sharp. Nothing but soft plastic put there to fill the holes.

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

Yep if it doesn’t screw out easily take a small punch and pop it thru the bottom and with the mag out the lil plastic hole fillers usually fall on thru the mag well.

Tikka should put a note in the box that the receiver plugs are just plastic inserts.
Thought I had messed up the receiver hole threads on a nib t3x trying to back the plugs out. Two plugs came up and out, two ended up being pushed through. Heart skipped a beat and the threads were fine.

I know all about the heart skipping a beat over believing you might have screwed up a new receiver:)
