I am in the market for a 3-9 x40 ish scope with an illuminated Reticle for Deer hunting. Something for $300.00 Max, Preferably less,,good eye relief, simple Duplex reticle. Set and forget ,no dialing.
Been Killing deer for over 48 years with non illuminated scopes Eyes aint as good as they used to be though !!
Would appreciate some recommendations from those that use them.
I think that may be a tough order to fill. I'm not even sure if there is anything available with illumination at that price point that isn't along the lines of Barska/BSA/etc. Have you looked into heavier reticles? I'd much rather an unilluminated #1 or #4 with decent glass than a cheap scope with illumination.
I bought one of the 2X7 Hawkes also. I figured there was not much to lose for $100. I haven't put it on a heavy kicker but it seems like a decent scope. Thinking of trying on a Ruger Ranch 450 BM as a bear set up over bait.
I agree for the most part, but find that the ones with an illuminated dot at the center draw my eye there, especially on a fast shot up close, even in broad daylight. Got to be careful to keep them dialed down too, so as not to overwhelm the view. I also like green better than red, but that's harder to find.
The glass-etched dot in the 8x56 Hawke I just bought is nice. The dot is very visible on its own, and the rheostat lets you dial it to the exact brightness you want. Rings to mount it on my No. 1 will be here tomorrow. Then I can find out if the scope itself is any good.
I had one cheap illuminated reticle scope. I bought a rifle that had it on it. Sold it for about $30 and I warned the guy of what I thought of the scope. He bought it anyway.
(I didn’t like it.)
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally
I normally wouldn't care either but like hanco's black pig, a black bear coming to bait at last light may be hard to pick up...at least that is what I hear! I think the 1X4 Doug is showing might be just the thing. : )
I used a cheap BSA on 2 Bear hunts over Bait. Had it on a 336 35 Rem. Worked great for the hunt. I was 25yds from the Bait. The lighted crosshairs did help. I have a Sig Whiskey 3 illuminated on a AR-10 I will be taking Hog hunting in April. I will let you know how it works.
Close enough to a regular duplex, has the illuminated green dot that can be adjusted and used in bright daylight If I want to. I am really looking forward to receiving it.
Did not pay Leupolds retail price though, bought mine for a little less than $400.00
