There was no such thing in the military. Someone just chopped up a Garand to make it. I would pass, get the real thing.

I built a Tanker Grand a few years back in 308 caliber. Made a great hunting rifle. Sold it for $900.
blairvt is right though, no Military Tankers

Never adopted. If it is one of the experimental tool room jobs you could add a zero to the price. Undoubtedly it's one of a bazillion cobbled together by Bubba, Inc during the 60's. The pulp gun rags were full of ads for them back then. As such it is worth nothing in terms of an M1 collectible, maybe a few hundred as a curio.

There were a couple companies who produced M1 garand “tankers” in 30/06 and 308, and sold them as such. Google m1 garand tankers and I’m sure the info will pop up. It is not an original war time production gun, but still has value. In excellent condition I’d say $800-$1100 range depending on the maker.

Springfield Armory made one around 1999 it was a great gun and runs pretty flawless. If it is not one of those its a bubba and you will have issues. Good Luck.

There was no such thing in the military. Someone just chopped up a Garand to make it. I would pass, get the real thing. There were only 5 made as experimental versions of the Garand. It was to be called a Jungle Carbine, with no intention for use in a Tank. There are only 2 known to exist, one of them is in the Army Ordnance Museum at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. They were to produce a limited run of them for the Pacific, but the truce with Japan cancelled the whole project. Any that are seen today are cut down versions of the M-1 or some that Springfield Armory reproduced much later for sale as an oddity.
I was thinking the other day how much I used to hate Bill Clinton. He was freaking George Washington compared to what they are now.

Federal Ordnance, Fulton Armory, and at least one other company made them. I’ve owned a couple from those two companies and they ran flawlessly.

Back in the 90's (early 2000's) I handled a 'tanker' M1 '308' w/ a distinctive 'Springfield Tanker' heel mark at a gunshow, black plastic stock. IIRCC, , it was listed for $750. I kind'a wished I had picked it up. Surplus ammo in '308' (7.62 x 51) is still available.

Shuff's Garand is building a Mini-G. He does a professional job but it is NOT a factory production Garand. Springfield may have done some research on a shorter version of the Garand and if your really have a Springfield prototype you have a real find. But, it's probably a 1960's gunsmith conversion. The Mini-G's are going for around $1300 to $1400. kwg http://shuffsparkerizing.com/services/the-mini-g/

Many of the so called Tankers are built on welded demilled receivers,. Only tanker that's worth anything is the Shuffs Mini G. Why would you spend that kind of money on a Tanker when you can get a real Garand for less that will hold its value??
