My daughter is in the market for a good used car and we've come across what looks like a pretty decent deal on an '09 Ford Focus SE with 95k miles on the odometer. From what I can find online, it seems they're decent cars for the money, but to avoid 2012's and up due to some funky transmission issues.
Any of you have experience with a Focus? Thanks for any info.

A Focus was my middle daughter's first car. Bright red. It was a great car and she loved it. I don't recall any serious maintenance issues.

I’ve got a 2012, and it’s been a great car. 218k with no transmission issues. It shifts a little oddly, but that’s due to design, not a flaw, per say. All be done to the car is replace brakes and tires, and change the oil. Mostly highway miles, but still. I’ve heard good things about earlier cars and I bet that one has a ton of life left in it.

My BIL had a couple as commuter cars and seemed to find them dependable. His problem was that at 6’5” and 260# it was a tight squeeze. I assume your daughter won’t have that problem so I’m sure that the car would suit her just fine. Good luck. 👍

Oldest daughter was given a late model Ford Focus Hatchback to drive while her Chevy Cruze is in the body shop being repaired from hitting a deer. She told me yesterday that so far she likes everything about the Focus much better than her Cruze.

My daughter had an '05, former rental car from up north so it had some rust develop over time. The transmission acted up and her mother had Ford put in a new transmission, otherwise she had no issues.

My daughter had a 2004 Focus. It was a good car. She sold it when she bought a 2014 Fusion. I still see it driving around town here, it's still going strong at over 175000. IIRC, the only repairs were for a serpentine belt idler/tensioner pulley. The rest was tires, brakes and such.
