I've "heard" that Tikkas seem to somehow "shoot slow"
Anyone care to share any experience?

When adjusted for barrel length differences my Tikkas are all within a few fps of book velocities. Ballpark, anyway.

It takes a good rifle to live up to Noslers published velocities. Of the 8 or 9 I've had there was one in 30/06 that was a little poky. Compared to Noslers anyway. The 25/06 had a 22" barrel and suffered accordingly. Like Pharm said. There can be barrel length bias.

How about same ammo between a Tikka and another rifle?

While I'm still experimenting with my Tikkas and can't say, I can say that my Sako 75 (22.5" barrel) in .260 seems slow. The most accurate load I have found with 120 gr ballistic tips in Rem brass is using 45.0 gr of IMR 4350. My average velocity is 2740 fps.

16 - NO ! er I ain't tellin. First my T 3 Lite SS 270 Win runs ON PAR with other 270s I have and have had. I ONLY use 130s and I've used Surplus 4831 & H 4831 AND IMR 7828. The Tikka runs tit for tat with 700s, Multiple Sixes and **7600s** others own. " For the Rest Of The Story "...... As you know last week I 'began' developing my T 3x SS Lite 7 mm RM. SO FAR -- I have only shot ONE load in the T 3x , 7 that I have shot in a Syn 7 M, BDL 7 M, and a few BDLs of others. *** in that ONE load the T 3x is +/- 140 fps SLOWER than those other rifles. ? ? ? Now, I'm using Surplus 4831 and a diff charge naturally, and I'm WITHIN 85 fps of what I expected. I am NOT concerned @ 85 fps so that's GOODNUFF ! I have NOT decided IF I'm going to waste time & components comparing OTHER loads in the Syn and BDL that I still have, ? ? *** It has been so long that I can't remember having ANY factory 7 mag ammo! So I don't know about that. Jerry ps: It's hard..... but I'm honest about the T3x

I had 7mm mag that was consistently slower than several other 7mm mags I had tested the same loads in. Typically 75-150 fps slower.

NOW, I'm wondering if this is a trend in the 7 mag Tikkas ?

NOW, I'm wondering if this is a trend in the 7 mag Tikkas ? Well, I found something of interest per MY Tikka T 3x 7 Mag. I compared my COAL which is LIMITED to the magazine length. *** I can't seat ANY farther out. *** I seated bullets to ' CLEAR ' the lands. I MAY have found an answer as to WHY my Tikka 7 Mag is SLOWER than the 700s. 700 - COAL is 3.27 AND that is AS long as my T 3x magazine will accept. T3x - COAL is 3.39 will LOAD and CLEAR the lands **>> will NOT fit Magazine. That is .12" more freebore. ----------------------------- 1. WOULD + .12" distance be enuff to decrease 'pressure/velocity' ? 2. MAYBE I could load MORE powder in the TIKKA ? ? ? Guys - I have NOT made any decision -- I'm contemplating - considering -- ANY suggestions, THOTS, Jerry

How about it 16 bore ?
There's an ADDITIONAL .12" freebore in my Tikka T 3 , 7m RM , THAN the 700 has.

Jer, I'm lost pal....
I guess there could be something to that. I was thinking the barrel was tighter. I dunno man, I stopped chasing unicorns and just watch the show now. If that had been my Tikka, it'd had a box or two of something through it and be sitting in the safe by now.
Just a fan in the stands wanting to see how stuff shakes out.
It's interesting for sure.

I’m not arguing I was just thinking the opposite.
It ‘seems’ to me a tighter bore would raise pressure therefore increase vel.
With a loose bore ‘seems’ like less pressure -> -> slower.
UNLESS I’m mistaken I’ve read from MD that a longer throat -free bore - will decrease pressure and velocity. I could be mistaken !!
Also thinking about Wby’s free bore and they ADD powder to raise pressure and vel.
Bottom line .... just curiosity. - 85 FPS ain’t worth worrying about.

Yeah, I understand. Again this is MILD curiosity.
The reason I was expecting @ 3300 fps is over quite a few yrs. I have chronoed multiple 7Mags and that is CLOSE to normal.
I ain't loosing any sleep over it.

In general tikas that I have played with have plenty of free bore and I think that's part of the perceived slowness... just add a little bit more powder and watch the chronograph. I bought a Lyman borescope years ago and Like it quite well and I can tell you the insides of my Tikka barrels make me smile while other brands not necessarily so!

Don’t know if my Tikka is slow but it’s damn accurate and fast enough. Some people always need something to b!tch about.

My .260 seems a little slow. My .300 is not. Both have plenty of free bore.
