In a month, my wife and I will be going to Ft Jackson, SC to see our son graduate Army Basic Combat Training.
We'll be spending a few days in the area, as we've never been to that part of the country.
We're open to any suggestions of places to see, and restaurants to eat.
What say you?

I was there in 1974 one of my fellow trainees was talking to a woman in a bar in Columbia and her husband shot him in the penis. I resisted the urge to go into town
I like to do my hunting BEFORE I pull the trigger! There is only one kind of dead, but there are many different kinds of wounded.

One of the nicest zoos you've probably never heard of.. the Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens. riverbanks.org. The Vista has some of the nicer eating areas. Simple town for simple pleasures. Also they have a minor league baseball team named the Fireflies. Tim Tebow played for them last year.

Let me know what kind of food you like and I'll tell you where my favorites are. My favorite eatery in town is a German restaurant called Julia's Stammtisch. I eat there at least once every couple weeks. Cash only though. My fav seafood in town is probably the Blue Marlin. Lots of good BBQ.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!
We'll be spending 2 days in Columbia. Good BBQ gets me hot and bothered!
Looks like we'll run over to Charleston area for two more days to take in the sights.

Let us know if all the roads are still named after confederate generals Or if the p.c. police got em all renamed. Swing by the nco club and see if their is an aluminum arrow still in the sign in the letter O. 2am drunken 30yd shot from the parking lot on a dare in the summer of 98 while at recruiting school.
Good times......
