I have several of the mentioned rifles. Latest one was a mohawk 243. Dropped it in a brown precision stock. Had to do a bunch of fiddling with the screws as they were too long. Got them down to the proper length. They are hex head screws. Forget where I got them bought them as a aftermarket specific for the 600 series. But they were not the best of quality it seems. No matter what I tried I could not get a perfect fit with any type of driver or wrench. Add that to the uncountable times I had the screws in and out and the fact they seem on the soft side they are bit muffed up. Perfectly usable and most would not give them a second glance, but to a perfectionist like myself they are going to bug me. I assume there is a another Remington screw out there I could use. Now that I know the length will be a simple trim job and no need for numerous test fittings and I can keep the heads looking good.

So any advice on what other screws I can use as starting point is appreciated. Want hex heads. Thinking model seven screws might do the trick. Thanks.

I have a couple of sets of B-Square Hex Socket receiver screws to fit 600/660. I'd let a set go for $15.00 plus postage.

I ended up just making my own. Couldn't find a long enough one to work with the aluminum bottom metal.

In the past I used m7 rear screws, and made my own front screw. I wish the aftermarket bottom metals would have used standard 700 front screws instead countersinking for the stupid oversized front screw.

CAFR sent you a message.

This stock has no bottom metal. Uses a 700 adl trigger guard. Rear screw holds the action. The front "screw" is nothing more than a screw head that fills the hole and I epoxied the trigger guard to the stock. Ahead of the trigger guard is a pillar that is recessed into the stock about 3/8". The pillar is designed for the large screw head. Both screws needed considerable trimming as they were too long.

Thinking to solve my issues long term I might epoxy an extension to the front pillar with a smaller countersink so I can use a standard 700 screw. As for the model seven rear screw are they all the same? Have read the early ones were different size than the later ones.

For now I will get a set that CAFR has offered up.
