What is the best option for a factory long range (1000 yard target shooting) rifle out there right now? Both gun and caliber. There seems to be a lot of nice factory rifles capable of doing it. I’m just looking for something to mess around with here at the house and maybe go shoot a lope this fall with. Thanks for a suggestions Jerrad
Already have the scope covered

There's only one answer for that price IMHO, the Tikka CTR 24" 6.5 Creedmoor.
There's some other options between $1500-$2000

I would look at the Bergara HMR also, I believe if you shop you can get one for slightly under 1000.00.

CTR is where I’d go for that kinda dough.
I prefer the 20” version.... but the 24” would be alright if you didn’t run Suppressed.
I’d go .260.... if you’re into skinny jeans and man-buns, then get the Creed...... they both have 1-8” twist barrels and 3” Mag boxes.
You better pray to the God of Skinny Punks that this wind doesn't pick up......

The Rem 700 Long Range would be a good option and leave a bit of extra cash to put towards a better scope.

I would look at the Bergara HMR also, I believe if you shop you can get one for slightly under 1000.00. I bought a used HMR 6.5 a few weeks ago. I was shooting it yesterday at 400yds and it was sub MOA with $19.99 factory ammo. I didn't do anything to it except swap the 3lb factory trigger for a spare 2lb Timney I had. I thought about bedding it, but the lug mortise showed even contact wear across the rear surface from side to side, so I have not messed with it. Looking forward to seeing what it will do with handloads.
Now with even more aplomb

How serious do you want to get? For duty like shooting steel at 1K and hunting antelope and a budget of $1000, I would start looking at gun shows for a beat up older Rem 700 or Pre 64 Win. . Should be able to pick one up for around $400 or less if you are patient. Then send it out to have a Stainless barrel put on it by any number of manufacturers- Pacnor, etc... and you will have about $600 in that endeavor in just about any cartridge you want. If built properly, put that puppy in just about any wood or plastic stock you want and it will probably do what you want it to do. Not exactly instant satisfaction, but the anticipation of waiting for it to get finished is worth the wait. IMO.

Remington 700 LR in 7mm is great.
Ruger American Predator 6.5 Creedmoor...very light, but remarkable precision and accuracy.
Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor, very heavy, but superb results out to 1050 meters for me.
Highly recommend the SWFA line of low cost, but high performing glass.

I picked up a scope and still trying to decide what way to go with the rifle. I keep leaning towards the CTR but haven’t bought one yet, thought about trying something different I’ve never owned a Christensen(have heard both good and bad) keep kicking around a build but that can add up really quick over $1000 which I’m fine with to some degree. Still looking

Hmm...take a look at the Savage 112 .338 Lapua. Expensive to shoot, but hopefully my next rifle...

Buds has Rem. Gen II, 5R's in 6.5 CM & 260 Rem in stock as of yesterday. 24" fluted, threaded barrels with 5r rifling, H-S stocks. About $941 w/free ship. They need an aftermarket trigger IMO, but otherwise capable.

Why the 20" over the 24" in 6.5 CM? Wouldn't the 6.5 CM greatly benefit from the extra velocity for long range shooting? I understand if you just wanted to use a suppressor.

I shoot out to 1150 yards and going with the new savage desert tactical in 6mm creedmore. Had enough hard kickers. When the barrel gets worn I can stick another one on. For coyotes here in Il the smaller bullet is safer.

Aren't these set up so as to be able to reach the lands within mag confines? I remember reading something about longer magazines and bolt stops on this model.
