The discussion on the P-51 thread got me to thinking where are those guys like the Jimmy Stewart of old. Do any exist in the Hollyweird of today? So these are the ones I could think of off the top of my head.

That is quite a piece of work, totally different than today. But, they forgot one very important (in my eyes) person - Martha Raye. She was a colonel in the Army nurse corps (Reserve), and, from information from a friend of mine, pitched in to help when the base they were at on a USO tour was attacked. The young medics could not believe their eyes, but she, beyond being a great comic, was an extremely competent and capable nurse on the battlefield.

She seems to have been an extremely interesting lady. According to Wikipedia, she was never actually in the military, but did numerous tours with the USO, beginning in WW2. She was an LPN, so did occasionally help out in the base hospitals instead of performing, earning her the nickname of "Colonel".
Here's the best part:
"In appreciation of her work with the USO during World War II and subsequent wars, special consideration was given to bury her in Arlington National Cemetery on her death, but on her request, she was buried with full military honors in the Fort Bragg, North Carolina, post cemetery as an honorary colonel in the U.S. Marines and an honorary lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. She is the only civilian buried at this location who receives military honors each Veterans Day.
While it's true that all liberals are crazy people, not all crazy people are liberals.
I've shot alongside him at a couple of Service Rifle matches. Here's short clip of him saying high to someone's wife at Camp Perry a few years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPlqMKYQdrQ
