An H&R Handi Rifle is all you really need.
Past that it's just what you want to own.
Nobody can tell you what you want to own.
It's a personal thing.

My only remaining 308 is a premil Savage 99F. With steel mounts and a Lyman All-American steel tube scope it weighs 7# 5oz. You've got plenty of budget for one of those. I like it for hunting, but my requirements for any particular hunting rifle are modest.

Apparently he is still confused, and needed another thread to clarify his thoughts. I think I missed the first one.

I'm new to the 308 caliber and before I go spend over 1000$ I want to hear about other rifles people like. Yesterday I was thinking about getting a Browning x bolt kimbe r or a sako. If you don't like my post than don't reply

I don't have any experience with the rifles you mentioned, but seriously for a hunting rifle look into the 99s. I don't like the reputation of the X bolt, the Kimber seems nice, and I think the Sako has a detachable 3 round mag. I don't like detachable or three round.

A Kimber 84 Classic would fit the bill nicely.

I don't like the reputation of the X bolt, the Kimber seems nice, and I think the Sako has a detachable 3 round mag. I don't like detachable or three round. Youper, The Sako M85 has a 5rd magazine and you have to push up while pulling back on the mag release to get it to drop. It is detachable but the M85's are one of the most secure detachable mag systems. You really have to make conscious effort to get it out. For Cambo, if you are wanting something different but as high of quality as your Sako m75 look at the Steyr Scout. It's usually just over 1500 but you might find one for under. It has more unique features than any other modern hunting rifle. They shoot as well or better than Sako's - which is really saying something! The Steyr Scout is much my Favorite 308, I have Sako M85's in a few other Calibers that I'm also very fond of. Lot's of other nice rifles out there. One of these day's I'm going to have to try a Bergara since there's a lot of positive buzz about them. They'll have to go quite a ways to beat Sako's and Steyr's though..........
Remember this is all supposed to be for fun.......................

A good ol Ruger Hawkeye or Winchester Featherweight would be hard to beat. A buddy of mine has a Winchester Extreme Weather that is a real tack driver.

I remember shooting a Steyr Scout of yours up here at Negaunee once. I loved it, but it is far enough out of my price range that I didn't think to recommend it to cambo0420. If the price works for him, I'm sure the rifle would.

RAR with a 3-9x Meopta is all you'll need and have some ducats left over for ammo, gas and food.
