So I am going to San Diego for my nieces college graduation. My dad "OIDabble" will be along for the first 5 days. Are there any fire members close that would like to have a mini meet and greet while we are there. I will have a car and can do some driving but ultimately need to get back to San Diego so it can't be too far away. Also if anyone knows a good opportunity to get some fishing out of that area or things to do chime in.

Thanks,

Mack

Plenty of charter boats out of the area for half or full day fishing.

Many others...

Haven't been down there in awhile, but believe there's a lot of construction going on around the old Navy base.

The March field Air Force museum is about 45 miles up the 215 in Riverside.

There is a tour of an aircraft carrier there in the harbor that is not to be missed for any reason. There is also a great Naval air museum. Plenty of eateries along the harbor also, take your pick. Get a tourist pack from the local Chamber of Commerce, you'll find more things to do than you have time for.

This.

I haven't lived down there in 10 or so years now but have visited often. Old town is ok.
Check out the beaches. Ocean Beach (o.b.), Pacific Beach(P.b.), cruise through Coronado and check out the homes.
Gas lamp has some good food and great bars. Get a California buritto from alibertos or la palmas in imperial beach.
There really is to much to do and see. You will have fun.

If you cross the border into Tj, don't miss Adelitas bar! Amazing!😉

Don't forget the zoo. It's quite good. South Park also had a good suggestion for something to do in San Diego.

If visiting the Safari I would check their website, they are getting ready for a new Australia Walkabout in scheduled to open in May and may not be totally opened during construction.

Have a cocktail at the Hotel Del Coronado's indoor bar.

I'm the farthest thing from a big city guy, but as far as big cities go, San Diego is Damon nice.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The first 5 days will be with the whole family so we will be a group of 7. Last 6 days will be just me. I had thought about driving North but Cali is a bigger state than most realize and I didn't want to waste a day of driving to get to Napa or Central Valley for some wine and brewery tours. I would have enjoyed seeing Ranger Green again too but it will have to be a different trip.

One of the very few reasons I would ever go to California would be to the Sandiego Maritime Museum. I was there 55 or so years ago, and fell in love with the Star if India. They also have a sub or 2, sailing ships, and all.

I wouldn't go to Tijauna, my opinion only. If you do, look up that kid on the street who offered my uncle a chance at his virgin mother!

Hey, mack,

If things get slow you could always go by MCRD. I'm sure they can find some entertainment for y;all.

Semper_Fi57 ,

I did my turn in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club in the 90's. Actually my old ship is stationed in San Diego. CVN 71 The USS Theodore Roosevelt I can still remember the way to my old rack and know the Catapults like the back of my hand. I could probably teach some of those guys currently on there a few tricks.

I am sure the recruiters at the MCRD would get a kick out of my tubby old ass inquiring about reenlisting as a Marine. LOL

Anthony's Fish Grotto on San Diego Bay is great, especially the calamari.

Would also recommend sport fishing here Seaforth, They typically fish off of La Jolla while the Fisherman's Landing crews fish just north of Tijuana - waters may be icky.

There are also dining cruises around San Diego Bay Dining Cruises.
