I'm thinking about buying a CC pistol for my daughter and wondered who out there has been through this exercise.

The Glock 42 looks like it might be a winner.

I have one and, yes, have shot it a little. Cool little guns, ideal for those who 1) need a very compact CCW that's easy to conceal, and 2) are a little recoil sensitive (if not recoil sensitive, go with the 43 instead, which is only slightly larger, and for which practice ammo is cheaper and more readily available). For a compact .380, they shoot really nice. One down side is that both defensive and practice ammo can be a little hard to come by at times, and the ammo is more expensive than 9mm.

Both my wife and daughter have 42s. They shoot them well and have confidence with their operation. They both tried my 43 and just didn’t get the same feeling. They also tried an LCP and neither liked the feel. The 42 is the right pistol for them.

Ive got a 380 caliber but not a Glock. That caliber to me is just a back up to a real gun. Which, barely starts at 9MM with a 40S&W real nice and a 45 Auto extra extra real nice.
I have a M43 which is not much bigger than a 42. Of course some like being handicapped as evidenced by the purchases of some.

I've shot one . that said I can shoot a 43,lc9s, sheild 9 all very well I could not shoot the 42 worth a damn ! ! Don't know if it was the 42 being just a bit smaller ( I have fairly large hands ) if it was that particular gun had some issues or the ammo that was used at absolutely hated but we did try to three different kinds.

I agree.

I still have one and carried it for a bit over a yearuntil the 43 was introduced. It is a very comfortable carry gun, recoil is much less than the 43 I summer carry now.

Larger capacity mags helped me grip it better. I added night sights and a trigger.

If you are comgfortable with a .380 firearm for carry it is a great one. I am comfortable with the .380 particularly with the longer barreled ones.

I went with a 43 because my other carry guns [G-26, G-27 (with conversion barrel and mags) andG-19 are 9mm and it makes ammo supply simpler.

I tried a .380 a few years ago but got rid of it when ammo and reloading components were scarce. Right now, both are readily available, and I am experimenting with a S&W Shield 380 EZ. TRH is right that factory ammo is expensive compared to 9mm, but handloading .380 these days is just as cheap as handloading 9mm. You can get jacketed bullets from Precision Delta for 8.7 cents a bullet shipped if you buy 2000+ rounds. You can get Starline brass at 15.2 cents per round shipped if you buy 500. It is not that much more expensive than premium .22 LR once you amortize the cost of the brass and dies over a few loadings, and it can be just as fun to shoot. (A Dillon 550 .223 shellplate and 9mm pins and powder funnel will work with .380.) A Glock 42 may be on my horizon.

I have one. It shoots well, not snappy as most 380 blowback pistols; the 42 shoots from a locked breech.

In a pocket holster it carries like a wallet.

I've shot my buddy's a couple three times. They are pleasant to shoot, but...I'm just not convinced that the .380 is "enough" gun. Get a 9mm.

I guess that I could give her one of the Rossi 720s that I already have, no worries about the 44 Special being enough gun.

I'm looking for a small handgun that she can shoot from the inside of a purse.

Have a G42. Installed Strike EMP+2 grip extenders on the mags to improve the ergos of the short grip, both for myself, and for my wife who has smallish hands. Much better grip and feel over the stock magazine bottom plates.

Bought one back in Feb of this year. Shoots both AE 95gr and Federal HST 99gr ammo w/no problems and they're accurate. My G19 Gen3 is what I carry mostly though.
If anyone is looking for a decent low priced holster for a G42 (offered for other pistols also) I picked one of these up last week. For me it carries nice at 3 o'clock in between my pants and belt.
