I've always been a fan of the .35 Remington cartridge, especially in anything other than a lever rifle. I've owned them in Contenders, pumps, and would love to find one in a Model 7 KS. I have one in a 7600 Carbine, and just added another in a 22" 760 that appears to be made around 1979.

The 760/7600's are some of my favorite rifles, mainly because I grew up on Remington 870/1100 shotguns and semi-auto rifles. I have another 760 Carbine in .30-06, and wouldn't mind a standard model in .243.

Here's my question, how common was the .35 Rem chambering in the 760 pumps? I know the majority of guns are in .30-06, and rarely ever see them in anything else.

I've had two of them. They went down the road, but my 336 A is staying. I've tried to get along with the 760 and still have one in 300 Savage. Shooting them offhand doesn't work for me because they make me put my support hand too far forward. I saw some stats once on how many of each chambering was made. It wasn't clear when this list was made or ended, but from memory about 5% were 35 Remington.

I found this link:

https://gun-data.com/remington_mod_model760.htm

Gives a breakdown of when the chamberings were offered. Interestingly enough, looks like the 7600 Carbines in .35 with wood stocks were a special run for Grice in 2003...if I'm reading the chart correctly, there were only around 300 offered.

I passed on one of those 7600s six months ago. They wanted $500 and it was in perfect condition. It was hard to walk away from, but I just couldn't justify it.

One of the rarer chamberings I believe.

they made 35,801 760's in 35 rem from 52-80 out of a total of 971,712 760 rifles. not rare but not common. they only made 456 carbines in 35 rem though. they sell for $5k these days.

I'm not sure they're real common. I have a nice one and it shoots as good as a .35 Rem should shoot. I could be talked out of it. It's a sweet rifle.

My brother-in-law had one though not a carbine. I always thought that a .35 Remington shouldn't need a 22" barrel because it isn't a long ranger anyway. I cut down a .35 M141 to a 20" barrel and I thought it was way better than that original long one. The prize I think would be to find one of those early machined lighter weight Remington M14 1/2 carbines in .35 Remington, but I'd sure look at a .300 Savage like that too. My own 760 .257 Roberts rattled in the slide and it was just one more thing that I could prevent with a bolt action to keep from spooking the deer.

I'm very interested in seeing how velocities compare between the 22" barrel and the 18" barrel on my carbine, but I suspect there won't be a lot of difference.

That's a very nice rifle that I would be proud to own. Those 760s will take heavier loads than a 336 and still work well. I've owned 2 over the years. One was a beater and was rechambered to 358Win.

The mags are hard to find. I would use a common 308 mag and save the original.

That's an easy fix with a tight fitting O-ring from and industrial parts store.

Yeah that comment always cracks me up.

My two biggest bucks, weight and body size were shot within10 yards. Both with a 7600, 30-06. One stopped moving when the safety "clicked". Fatal move.

I always assumed intruders in my house will fall over dead hearing me rack my 870 Rem. Remington has that reputation for instilling fear in man and animal...😎

You guys must hunt calmer deer than I do. I put an 8 point into launch mode before I learned how to silently take off the safety on my M77. I thought that I was a wanna be Benoit in my younger days and even got Larry to autograph his book for me. The trouble was that I got a lot of bucks shot for the guys up ahead of me who had enough sense to stay on their stand and have a Benoit wanna be kid push the deer for them. A slide rattle would be nothing compared to the noise a guy makes walking in the woods and a one handed carry between the slide and receiver stifles that anyway. Those 760's have always had the reputation for being very accurate rifles and my Roberts was no exception. In retrospect I guess that I could have shot lots of my deer with a .35 Remington, but not all of them. I could shoot close deer with a rifle that shot farther, but not the far deer with a rifle that shot closer. I'm always reminded of the look on my buddy's face when I said that he should stand overlooking a 300 yard long opening and I'd drive the green swamp for him. His rifle at the time... a .44 Magnum Ruger carbine.

I bought one NIB (box was ragged) at an auction in PA last year for $700 OTD and flipped it pretty quickly for $800. They are not common but there are other 760 calibers that are much harder to find. Agreed the carbine goes for 5K in .35. I have probably seen 50 or more 760 rifles in .35 over the years, so they can be had, but many are early models not factory D&T. The much more valuable calibers are .243, 6mm, .222, .223, etc. But you can sneak up on a .243 in some states, not everybody realizes they bring 1K in PA.
