Ghost', that is what jumped out at me being a fat ass 60's baby and the recent Atkins thread.
Grains and grain oil was not on the menu back then, meat, potatoes and lard...and I am sure hard work and clean living was part of the mix.

The image info says Culver Elementary, March 10, 1930. It doesn't say what grade but I'd guess 2nd through 4th which would put them around 7-9 years old, i.e. 17-19 in 1940. So I'd say most all of the boys took part in WWII, and maybe some of the girls went overseas as well.
That leads to interesting speculation. Which of them saw fighting in Africa, Italy, France or the Pacific? Any future DSC or Navy Crosses there? Or how many were in the majority of servicemen working at supply depots, as mechanics or machinists mates, cooks, Signal Corp or one of the thousands of support roles? Any future fighter pilots or bomber crew looking out at you here? How many survived the war?
