Fieldcraft 6.5 getting stretched out.

Well I just found this thread and slogged my way through all seven pages. I've been contemplating a very similar acquisition to the OP and have researched it to death. My budget is not quite what the OP's is but I think the Fieldcraft, the Kimber (Montana or Hunter) would be fine guns (clearly I'm not as worried about Kimber roulette as some seem to be). I too want a light(er) rifle but there's good evidence that real lightweights tend to be more finicky about ammo and maybe even more difficult to shoot. So I'm wondering how light is light. Where is the sweet spot between a 5.5 lb. Finicky Flyweight and a 7.5 lb. Hefty Hitter? I'm also wondering why no one suggested the Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather SS as an option? It's a solid rifle with a great stock, but weighs 6 lbs. 12 oz. in 7mm-08 which may be heavier than the OP is looking for.
