Can a factory sporter SS M700 30-06 barrel be re-chambered to 300H&H and be installed on a magnum 700 action without issues?

Provided the magnum action is built around the 300 wby,375h&H case length, I see no problem

Long 700's are true long actions. I have a 257 weatherby , can I have it rebarrelled to 300 H&H with no other mods then a new barrel? Honest question, I would have thought at least the magazine box would have to be altered.

If you have a long mag cartridge hanging around just snap it into the magazine.

A range acquaintance of mine has a Rem 700 5R Milspec chambered in 300 Winchester magnum. He is a careful guy, and a couple of years ago was relatively green to handloading. So he was taking the SAAMI max OAL of 3.340" as a hard limit. After I told him how it was a limit such that a cartridge built that way would properly go into any 300 Win mag rifle, but not a limit as to what would go into his rifle, he started hanging heavy Amaxes and Bergers well out and got that rifle really cooking.
I don't know if they blocked off the 257 mag magazines, but I doubt it.

Changing to a magnum Magazine Follower is easy and cheap if needed. You will need the bolt face opened up and a "M16" type extractor installed, maybe have another ejector button machined/installed, but that's still pretty cheap...worth doing! I killed my first cow elk, back in '94 with the old Hornady Light Magnum/180SP, 23" 30-06 going 2910. That's classic 300 H&H territory! It was wicked. I Even better was the old Federal High Energy/180NP going 2970! I say go for it!

He already has a magnum 700 action. He's only asking if the loose 30-06 barrel he has can be easily rechambered.

Has anyone looked at the drawings to see if the taper in the 300 H&H case will clean up the 06 chamber or how much set back may be required? May need to go to 300 Weatherby to clean it up. No real loss, though as you can easily load the WB cartridge down to H&H specs and up to handle heavy bullets...

It's not worth the weight of stell.
I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

What a waste of time! Just trade in that 700 for a decent action. It's the 700 that needs upgrading and not the cartridge! L.O.L]

I had a 700bdl in 7 Rem Mag with a wonky barrel. Had a 700 30-06 barrel [22 inch sporter] Rechambered to 300h&h and installed. This was in 1983. Have been using it ever since. Holds 3 down and feeds and shoots perfectly. Can load up to 3.655 OAL. 220 Nosler at 2700 from the short barrel. 180's at 2950. This was a chrome moly, not SS. Greydog did the conversion. No magazine work required.

Yes, it looks like the .300H&H reamer should cleanup the .30-06 chamber.
