So, happenstance, and, some say, luck had me travel by my preferred mode of locomotion
to the High Tatras - Strbske Pleso, to be precise, for some scientific congressing and conventioning.
With this, I shall not bore you much, but rather relate a tale that brought hunters across the continents and, more, a time divide of 10.000 years together.
But, let me start at the beginning. The Tatras are somewhat nice to look at:
One day, the organising commitee haveing done away with the simultan translation and all speeches given being in Slavakisch, I tought, lets hike up the hill behind the hotel.
to see if we can not find some Gams (Rupicapra rupicapra) to photograph. Hunting being out of the question,
- as I was in a national park
- no season
- no license
- no rifle.
As I assended the trail, rounding a bend, I stop. Reverance, realisation - and foreshadowing, all at once, hit upon my very soul.
I knew - I will see Gams. Hunters had travelled here before. Long before.
Experts dated this sign, appearently urging to give a gams collision warnings, about 10.000 years prior to the modern rendition I had witnessed a year or two back, hunting chamois (Gams) in the alps with my friend, Joe.
,
who, being "the in touch with the spirits type of guy" was sure to heed this ancient wisdom, back in Austria.
Sure enough, Gams were seen on my walk.

Somberly, reflecting on lessons learned, I descended, back into the valley.
