This classic all original rifle is in very good condition, it functions perfectly with no rust or pitting anywhere and light scratches from hunting and safe. There is a small amount of wear from carrying. My uncle bought it new in late 60's or early 70's and hunted with it for a couple years before passing away. I shot a few boxes from it and hunted a few years with it then put it away myself many years ago. Time for it to get back in the woods.... I am listing it without sights or scope but would include the Leupold Vari-x II 1-4 for additional money. Please send me your email by PM for more pictures. This can only be shipped to a licensed dealer where it is legal and I will charge you whatever actual shipping costs. No urgency for me to sell so lowball offers not needed...
Rifle alone $485
Scope $200 with rifle, not available separately.

Looks like a carbine. That's a sweet little rifle!

Are the sight holes still in good shape? Can I reinstall the open sights without any trouble?

The holes have been plugged since the original sights were removed over 40 years ago so the threads should be fine. Unfortunately, I don't know where the sights went...

My Son has the carbine in 30-06. Extremely accurate. Has taken many deer with it. Very nice gun.

Excellent observation. Has to be two different rifles.

It's all the same rifle and is right handed. I am a lefty and don't think they ever made a left hand action in 742 carbine. Sorry for the confusion, have no idea how they got so flipped around.

FWIW all 742 were right side eject.
"right handed" or "left handed"..........some factory stocks had a cheekpiece (maybe only the high comb stocks).

Neat rifle.Don't see em in .308 much, let alone a carbine.
