Yep, happy belated 4th. Just popped in here because I am sitting at my desk on a Friday afternoon. I can hear the MN trapshooting tourney going on (open to everyone). I figure close to 2 million rounds will be shot by the end of these two tournaments!

Hey, any good Boundary Waters advice? Bringing the family on our first adventure. Big tips, small tips, I will take them. We are going in via Snowbank Lake. the wife and daughter in one canoe and my two boys and I in the other.

Belated Happy 4th to all our members, friends, and family. We just got back from our annual vacation to a little family run resort up in Emily, Mn. Not the best weather-rained a lot, and hard. The fishing was pretty spotty. We had one good meal and a couple other stragglers came to the boat. 'Lost a big northern next to the boat a couple days ago. Put up one heck of a fight, and spit my Pikie Minnow back at me from right next to the boat. Lots of fun. Glad to be back home, but it made me more anxious for deer season. Returning from summer vacation always gets me thinking about deer hunting. We saw about 25 deer up there-lots of fawns. Back to work on Monday. Oh well.

We got back from a week in the WI northwoods. We were camping. 6 kids 2 tents, and jack slept in the truck bed laugh . Weather was almost perfect. We had a few hours of rain on the 4th but it turned out to be a beautiful day. A beautiful week really.

We stayed on the Totagatic Flowage. Both of us want to buy a lake lot there. It’s gorgeous. I don’t think the kids left the water much except to fish or eat. It went a lot better then I thought with the baby. She loves camping apparently. A complete surprise to us, the kids loved it so much they want to play fewer sports next year and camp more. Jack was on the fence about that but no biggie either way.

Mama also said it’s time to sell the 30 year old boat and get a newer one we can take more kids in and pull tubes. Call me nuts but I’m not sure how I feel about that. This one is paid for and set up damn near perfect after 4 years of tinkering. Hell, jack and I just set up some interior LED lights so we can actually see what’s going on in the early and late hours.

One of the best things was we made a no phones rule. The kids had very limited access to the phones. We did too. It was great as far as I’m concerned. So far this summer the kids have gone for 2 weeks without cell phones, games, or iPods.

In a few hours, we are going to pick up our new puppy. A female English/American Lab mix. Her name is Gretzky.

We battled the heat and hauled a bunch of equipment out to the cabin for trail mowing and maintenance. We mostly worked but we found an hour or so on Saturday and again Sunday to go for a trail ride and pick some blueberries.

Nice Sir David, how do you pick the berries? Use a rake, or just by hand?

Pork tenderloin & ribs were fantastic.

Brisket piece, meh, tasty enough, but completely fell to stringy pieces when I sliced it.

P.S. The Gin & Tonics were outstanding !

wink
