This thread is making me want to get a puppy. I'm hesitant though because my soon to be 14 year old lab would be devastated if I paid a bunch of attention to a puppy. She's freakin half human that way.

Got us a new pup.Gretzky.
A black Lab. All ears and feet and a tail that doesn't stop wagging. She's living the life of Riley. The floor around the dinning room table has never been cleaner and the shoes have never had such a workout.
She seem smart, starting to be house trained already. She has 6 kids to torment and play with. She's living the high life...but secretly, so am I. It's been 6 years since my Daisy dog died and this was just what I needed. I had 2 Labs. Both black. Both lovable and EXTREMELY protective and loyal. BOTH loved to hunt. I miss them dearly. I went dogless after we lost our second one. I gave up bird hunting for almost 3 years. It was killing me. I am too old now to keep up with a flushing dog but I needed the companionship. We ended up finding an English Setter and she is the perfect dog for me. She is a hunting fool and seems to sense my inability to get up and go, so every once in awhile she will stop and make sure I am in gun range. If not she waits for the old man to catch up. But in the end, my Labs will always be in my heart. I am happy for you. Congratulations, and many happy years to follow.

Labs sure are awesome dogs. We're on our third one now. He's a 5 1/2 year old Chocolate. He still thinks he's 5 1/2 months old. Got him for our son when we had our last one put down. We have two German Shepherds too. We'll always have at least one of each breed, love them both.

Along with a few other folks I'm getting the itch for a bird hunting type dog. Our whippets, especially my 4 yo male, would just love to go out in the sagebrush and hunt rabbits with me, but I'm afraid I may not see them again for a while if they do come along.

Not much in the world better than a puppy! WTF? Where's the lab comment? Hes not gonna train it to do work and..... as someone said, its not a chocolate.... Funny you say that. Wife and a few of the daughters wanted a chocolate. I said “no.” I know 3 people with chocolates and the seem to be the dumbest damn dogs I know. But....still a lab so very faithful.
