So I need to scope a ULW 257 bee. I would like to keep it light weight but I want to take advantage of its long range capabilities also something proven and something very strong and repeatable that will hold zero. What do you guys recommend?

Good luck. A 6x36 Leupold might be all you’ve got.

Otherwise a 3x9 / 6x SWFA is about as versatile as you get along with knowing it won’t take a dump on you.

I've been looking for something like your request. I will definitely be watching your thread.

How 'bout this?

I've been thinking about the perfect scope. Maybe 4-30X would be good. At least twenty-two feet field of view on 4X. Carbon fiber body, dependable erector, 50mm objective, 40mm ocular, 30mm tube for lots of 1/4 MOA clicks, six minute spacing between top and bottom and sides with four minute wide reticle for low light, wide ring spacing, lens to air glass, interior lenses plastic (my glasses are plastic and extremely light) for a maximum weight of 16 ounces.

Define light?
I like the Leupy VX2 4-12 with LR. About 13.5 oz and reasonably good optics...

The Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40 comes in a little over 13oz. I have had a couple that have worked great thus far is my limited use with them (i.e. they have held zero to this point - can't speak to turret twisting with them). I could not find any bad reviews on them a few months back (although there were not a lot of reviews in general). Maybe a candidate scope to add to your list of options.

I have a very light, custom 284 and in keeping with its weight, proportion, expected game — deer to elk — and the greatest range I’d use it at, about 400 yds, I mounted a Leupold 6x36 with the LR Duplex. Easy-peazy, a no-dial set-up, and with my load, a zero at 250 yds it is only ~ 14” low at four hundred. That’s without using the dots.

The 257 is flatter yet, so the L 6x at about 9 oz might be workable though I could see a bit greater power, a fixed 8x or 10x, though I don’t even know who makes a lightweight.

Fotis,

3.5X18 Swarovoski is around 15 oz. I have had no trouble with mine great glass.

Live in Ft. Collins could run it up to you if you want to take a look through it.

I've pretty much given up on light. Decided the rifle is where that effort belongs. Now I'm thinking reliability, ER, and mounting flexibility. I have one for twisting, but won't hunt it normally because the reticle's not right for the woods under some conditions.

Right now I'm looking at the SHV with Forceplex, the Trijicon Accupoint (the lightest, but generally considered reliable), and maybe a couple others including the Hawke Endurance 30 line. I have three Hawkes I bought on clearance and so far, so good. Just mounted one of the 30mm ones on my .308 for some serious testing. They have coil erector springs and illumination. If it proves out, I might give another a shot. It's an 8x56, so not practical for general hunting here, but some others are. The SHV is my top pick still, and at $875, the most expensive.

I do have a SHV, the 3-10x, and it’s becoming one of my all time favorites due to its features except I’m still unsure about the MOAR reticle as a hunting reticle and it’s not exactly a lightweight.

I’m liking the forceplex. Wish they would offer it in the nsx. Actually spoke to a real person (who was very helpful, spoke English, and was located in the US!) and sadly the are not planning to offer it in the nsx at this time - although he said he would “pass it on.” Also verified that they will NOT retrofit a 3-10 shv with an exposed elevation turret ala nsx.

Clearly, niether of these scopes fall anywhere near the OP’s stated goal on the weight spectrum.

Lots of good choices. Were I looking to scope up a lightweight rifle, and keeping with the theme, with a lightweight dependable scope, I'd lean towards mounting up one of my Swarovski Z3 3-9s.

13 ounces and great glass and mine have always been dependable.

Yes, my experience with the Z3’s has been very good; they are light and bright and the BRX reticle works well.

I have a very accurate Forbes 270. I wanted to mount a SWFA but had ejection issues with it and had to mount a Z5 3.5-18X44. I got the one with the turret and 4w reticle. I've busted some rocks and jugs at up to 300 which is about as far as I can even find to shoot at home.
