I looked it up and the velocity of that bullet at 400 yards (fired at a muzzle velocity of 2900 FPS) is about 1780 FPS. At 500 it would be about 1500 FPS. All my kills were fine, and I got exits on mid sized white tail and mule deer and antelope too. So I would assume that it would be just fine fired from your 25 Rem for deer hunting out to about 150 yards.

It's too hard in the .257 Roberts I don't know how it could be as it was designed for use in the 25-35...

Hornady, 25 caliber 117gr Roundnose - Optimum velocity 2500-3300.
I think you'd need a 60" barrel and a downward angle to sling a 117gr from a 25/35 at 2500 fps. Odd that the bullet designed for the 25/35 was picked by Weatherby for the 257 Weatherby.

Works great for me the the 257 Roberts. But it's a RN so Hornady will likely discontinue it very soon anyhow.

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Just talked to a Tech at Hornady and he said as long as the impact speed was 2000 fps or above, it would expand fine. So, with a starting velocity of 2300 fps, at 100 yds. it is down to 1948 fps. I just wanted to know what real world results had been before I invited disaster to the hunt. Thanks

I'm telling you, if you sling one in through the lungs at slow speed, expect the deer to run.
If you hit bone, you will be good. Many have told you that on here, regardless of a head shot griz

Seems we discuss this bullet every fall It's one of my favorite deer bullets. It takes a special bullet to kill from a big cased Weatherby Mag and a old small cased Winchester lever action round. I've used it out of the Roberts, .250-3000 and the 25-45 Sharps. Guys are correct if you double lung a deer with this bullet it's going to run. I've arm pit shot dozens of deer where no heavy bone was hit. Shot them with .358 Win, 350 Rem Mag, 444 Marlin, 8x57 and 30-06, whether it was with a Ballistic Tip, Partition or X-bullets most made the 50-60 yard death sprint. From last fall concerning the 117 grain RN: https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...re-25-caliber-bullet-test-2#Post11589134

I've shot a half dozen does with the 117 gr RN out of a couple different Model 8s in 25 Rem. I can't say how well the bullet expanded as all exited but the deer didn't act much different when hit than what I have observed with 30 Rem, 30/30, 32 Win Spl, or 32 Rem. These dressed out in the 120-140# range and were all shot more or less broadside through the lung area at 40 yards or less.
Recovery was not difficult and I did not lose a deer so I found the bullet acceptable. I am looking at 100 gr bullets for the next batch mainly due to having so many. I doubt there will be a significant difference in use.

I’m waffling on this. Considering few people would shoot “long range” with an open sighted 25 Remington this bullet may work ok.
I shot a nice buck pronghorn 6 times through the chest with a 6mm and either a 100 or a 105 grain Speer boattail (I forget). The load was uncanny accurate and the furtherest shot was 100 yards. I hit the buck just behind the shoulders each time as I am a carnivor, didn’t want to ruin meat. It didn’t seem to be hit, until it dropped. It kept trotting around me giving me anple opportunity to do better.
The goat finally succumbed.
Since then I’ve tried to pick “just the right bullet”. To hard - pencil size holes or bullets that don’t reach the vitals are both not “just the right bullet” in my opinion
But as I wrote, a 25 Remington shooter probably will not going to shoot long range, so it might work “ok”.

Midsouth has them now - that’s what created the curiosity.
Didn’t want to create a fresh thread so I added to this good oldie
