John, I need a new chronograph. I don’t want an Oehler, a Magnetospeed, or a Labradar. Need something a little less temperamental and more accurate than my Chrony. Must be simple and portable. What do you suggest?
Thank you.

Not Muledeer but I like my Prochrono very much. Won’t kill your budget either.

This. Always seems to work and easy to operate.

RinB -

Might advertise Wanted Oehler 33 - now discontinued - simple to set up and use - not tempermental!

Maybe someone had one they're thru using. Mine is NOT for sale/trade.

I installed my screens IN a 2X6 @ 5' c-c spacing. Set board on stand or table/container - no muss no fuss.
Look QUICK photoPUKEIT may kidnap the pic.

Good Luck

Rick,

Another vote for the ProChrono. It'll do anything you require.

I've my ProChrono Digital for about 2 years now and don't know how I got along without it. Sure beats firing a round, twisting a dial, and looking at a chart to read velocity like I had to do on my ancient one.

Prochrono. And the add-on “app” so you can use your phone as the display is a MUST have.

Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

I'll sell you my digital ProChrono for a better-than-fair price. It works great, but only when I get to go out on private land, which is four hours away. Usually, I shoot at a range. Bought a Labradar, and I can't imagine ever using the ProChrono again. They both report the same velocities from the same ammo in the same guns. I also have a Magnetospeed, which also works the same--very well. It solved the indoor range issue, but it only works on rifles and revolvers I think. And it changes the POI, so you're spending money on ammo only to chrono. With the Labradar, you can sight in and chrono at the same time, and you don't have to shoot through or over anything. I used mine for the first time on Monday, and it failed to register one shot out of about 40 rounds I shot. Actually it did register the shot, but said that my 7mm Wby had fired a 140gr TTSX at over 5,990 fps. I think not, so I deleted that one. The rest of the shots were in the normal standard deviation range. I got a flat mount from Labradar so that the muzzle sits about 6" away from the chrono at the shooting bench. Really, really convenient with that.

I know you don't want a Labradar, but personally I've never used a more easy to set and use chronograph.

I understand the horse comment, but have to laugh when I see this. Most on here, including me, wonder if their bullet is up to killing a whitetail. But everyone seems concerned every bullet is going to drop a 1100# horse if hit anywhere.

ProChrono Digital. I've had one for 20 years or so and still works great. Hard to beat for $100.
