Found a very clean/nice 2005 Chevrolet Suburban with the 6.0 Vortec. This one is the 2500 (rare around here) with the 6.0. Only has 97K miles (uber rare around here). Seriously considering picking this up for the wife as it will be a lot better for towing the 2-horse trailer, and giver the option of towing the 3 horse slant when needed. I've read the other threads about the 6.0 and have heard nothing but good things about them. I'm very mechanical and do 95% of my own work. Anything in particular I should watch for/check on this one?

I had a 2500 with a 454. Was a great truck. Pulled my boat and travel trailer just fine. Make sure that the rear AC unit is functioning correctly.

Thanks, Owl. It seemed good but I will confirm that it functions properly. I had a 99 crew cab 3500 with the 454 and it was a damned good truck.

If you dont get the RPM's up you will be disappointed in the 6 liter.
Seen some flat cam lobes and they had a crappy oil pump system, but they were good engines.

4x4 or 2wd??? If it's been taken care of, that truck has another 125-150k left in it. Make sure it goes into 4wd and that the shifter stalk switch will put it in tow/haul mode. Make sure front AND rear air are working properly. Check your dash gauges are working properly and that the PRNDL display is visible (these can be fixed, but cost a little, so negotiate price down). Parts are cheap, plenty of stuff on eBay, too. Nothing that'll cost too much, as long as the engine/trans/4wd are solid and the AC works. Assuming this is in the $5k to $8k price range???
BTW, a new Suburban will run you around $65k or more...

I have not heard of oil pump issues with the 6.0, 97K is nothing on an LS if the oil was changed on a regular basis. Here is a *reported* 180K mile 5.3 and 4L60 I pulled out of a beat to crap and neglected Yukon from a junkyard that is going into my Cherokee. Powerwashed Pulled the valley cover. Pulled a rod bearing cap for grins. Even at 180K all it is getting is new gaskets, pickup tube o-ring, front and rear main seals and knock sensors. Just to cover oil leaks that I hate and low oil pressure (o-ring gets old). Yes, 4X4. It's a 2 owner/1 family truck. Both owners 50+ years old since special ordering it new. Always maintained with service records. I tested 4X4 in both hi and low and it worked well in both; very smooth in and out, no clunking or other noise. The speedometer 'sticks' a bit which is common on these (servo) but it does not effect the odometer. I can fix this myself for pretty cheap in an hour or so.
Price is $7500 if I fix the speedo. Decent price according to NADA, but in my area these are pretty rare and sell quickly. Regionally I haven't found anything with this low of mileage for anywhere near the price.

No reason to worry about the LS, what transmission?
If it has the 4L80, a TH400 with OD you are golden.

I have a 6.0 in an SUV AWD. It is a bit thirsty but pulls our boat well. Have really enjoyed it. NO issues from beginning and at 105k now. Buy it! It’ll last a looong time. Good luck

I have a 2006 2500 4x4 with the 6.0 Vortec. 8 foot bed. Takes an acre to turn around. Engine seems fine but it isn't like my 5.7 Hemi I had in my Dodge. Got it just about 2 months ago. It has a grand total of 25,500 miles on it. Serves solely as a hunting/towing vehicle. It will be a while before I can give you a high mileage report.

I've got around 310,000 miles on my 2005. Its rock solid and gets over 18mpg on the road if you keep the speed down. Plan on around 12 mpg around town. I'm a 6.0 fan for what they are.

I have a '08 2500 WT with the Vortec 6.0. About 94K, runs good. One thing is the 6sp autotrans seems to always be searching for a gear. It might be the TCM, freaking computer can't make up its mind? When towing you need to keep the rpms up, don't be afraid to push hard on the accelerator. It will burn some gas too!

My '03 2500HD with the 6.0 Vortec just turned 200K miles. Still runs great. I have been running full synthetic oil and changing it every 5-6K miles. The only repairs beyond routine maintenance have been a fuel pump at 125K and a throttle body at 150K. I get 11-13 MPG (fairly heavy truck- long bed, crew cab)

Had a 6.0 Vortec. Would buy again.

Just a FYI for anyone interested. I've got Torque Pro on my tablet along with a wireless connector and extension cable, its a $5.00 app plus these items. I leave the cable plugged up all the time and just plug in the connector when I want to run Torque Pro. cablebafxIf your where you can adjust your driving style, you can pay for this pretty quick with a 6.0 Its a pretty good diagnostic tool for what it costs but Bluedriver is probably better if you want to spend a $100.00

I have a 2005 GMC sierra 2500 with the 6.0. By 2005 the 6.0 had floating wrist pins which eliminated the piston slap noise of the earlier engines and it also predates engines with active fuel management which was problematic. I think you've hit the sweetspot with this one.
