For Sale: I just celebrated my eightieth birthday and my hunting days are now behind me. The mountains have now outgrown my ability to reach the tops, and a one-mile hike has turned to the equivalent of a twenty-five mile one. That being the situation, I will be offering several of my fine guns for sale over the next few weeks and months. I'll list three here today.

First is a lovely Weatherby Athena (Grade IV) 12 bore that I have owned for thirty years or so. It is in excellent condition. The barrels are 28” and comes with six-choke tubes and changing wrench. The one I have apparently pre-dates the Grade IV designation which was redesignated in 1989 according to the Blue Book. I bought it from a close friend of mine who had not used it at all about that time. I've shot a couple rounds of Sporting Clays with it, and took it on one bird hunt. I'd like to get $1500.00 for it, shipped to your FFL. ****SOLD****

Second is a nice G33/40 Mauser actioned custom rifle built by Pete Grisel and so marked. The rifle is chambered for the .257 AI cartridge. The barrel is 23” long and I made by Shilen. The stock is made from what appears to be grafted English walnut and is checkered in a skip-a-line pattern that was made popular by Leonard Mews. For all I know Mews may have actually made the stock as Grisel is a metalsmith, not a stockmaker as far as I know. The rifle has a Canjar trigger and I have not had the stock off the rifle to check for any identification as to the stockmaker. The stock has a few very minor nicks from sitting in the safe, which wouldn't be a big job to clean up. The thumb-cut on the action has been filled in, presumably by Pete, for whatever reason. It has been fitted with a two position safety and Buehler scope mounts. It wears a Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14 x 40 scope. I'll take $2500 for it shipped to your FFL.

Third is a custom rifle built by Glenn Pierce for me, using a Heym SR-20 action and Heym 7mm hammer-forged barrel, both of which I provided. The stock I got from Kelly McMillan. Glenn fitted the barrel to the action and cut one of his precision target chambers for the 280 Remington cartridge. I mounted a Schmidt & Bender 6X scope in Buehler mounts. The rifle was superbly accurate, as accurate as any I have owned and better than most. However, the very tight chamber caused me a few issues for a hunting rifle, so I gave it to Curt Crum of the David Miller Co. and he opened up the chamber a bit and added a two-position Model 70 type safety to it. It has been flawless since. I'll take $1900 to your FFL.

I tried editing but it didn't seem to work. I've lowered the price on the Grisel custom to $2250.00 and the Heym custom .280 to $1750.00.

PM sent.

Dennis.

Those who call magazines "clips" and cartridges "bullets" ought not to be taken seriously. Jeff Cooper.
We might add those who call bullets "boolits.
