I put this one together in 2001 for a 2002 trip to Africa. A rebored FN 30-06 I bought when I lived in Kansas. The rifle was built in Wiesbaden Germany and is so marked along with "C-D Gunshop". Cliff LaBounty did the rebore and it shoots well. I used the original 250 gr Barnes X then and it worked fine on the little critters as well as eland. Pretty light of weight too.

Indeed it is ................ If one had a matching 7x57 to go with it and you'd have it all covered in style.

Thanks for the compliments guys. This is basically a parts gun I put together on the cheap. Got the stock on ebay for next to nothing, The barrel is from Montana rifle company as a closeout when they quit the barrel business. The details are; #4 contour barrel 20" long. The action is a VZ24 with 1909 bottom metal, Timney trigger, Tally bolt. NECG sights, Wisner safety, Deccelerator pad. I have thought about having it checkered but that would cost about 4 times what I paid for the stock.... I must say the stories of 9.3x62 being accurate seem to be true, it shoots every thing great, took all the fun out of load development...... Love that rifle! NECG front sight I can see, but don't see a rear sight? Fold down peep? I really want to put something similar together. Going to have to start looking for parts!

Madmooner, I originally had a XS peep rear sight. Then changed my mind and installed the Nikon 2-7 I had laying around. So my next project is a NECG rear sight. Then I need Talley Q.D. mounts and my low buck parts gun becomes a money pitt..... What the hell mat as well checker the stock also....

This CZ 550 has worked pretty well for over 15 years, here and there. Had it restocked by Kilimanjaro rifles with their laminated Stealth-process stock around a decade ago. It has the original 23.6" (60 cm) barrel and shortening it 3" would save about 3-4 ounces. It weighs 8 pounds with scope and balances great, so haven't bothered. As for velocity loss in a 20" barrel, have played around with that in another rifle and it depends on the load. Have never seen more than 100 fps loss, no matter the load.

Nice looking rifle!
I had a 550 Magnum in 375 for a bit. Just seemed needlessly big and heavy. Sold it with the thought of getting a 9.3 in a standard size action. Actually bought a Sako L61r 30-06 I was going to re-bore.
I just love the look of the old Mauser with the straight bolt handle though. Might have to sell the Sako and start shopping for a Mauser to build!
Another 550, but standard size, would maybe be a better route?

The standard 550 is a LOT lighter than the 550 Magnum.
The 550 Magnum in .375 H&H suffers from the same problem many .375's do: It's a built on a much larger action than necessary, and the barrel's the same heavy contour as for much larger cartridges, such as the .416 Rigby and .458 Lott. This saves the company money because they can build rifles in .375 on up with the same tooling, but the smaller hole in the .375 barrel just means a .375 will that much more than the same rifle in a LARGER caliber.
Love my .416 Rigby 550 Magnum, which weighs 9-1/4 pounds without a scope, and 10 pounds with a 3x20 Leupold, about right on a .416. But a .375 can weigh considerably less and still be comfortable to shoot.

Amen to that! I shot a 550 Magnum in 416 Rigby, was a great rifle and surprisingly comfortable to shoot.

Not trying to nit pic, but that looks more like a custom M70??
