just picked up one of these tonight.........will be a long range/NC whitetail 'beanfield' rifle.........deer out to about 500 and steel at 1k or more........ the scopes I am looking at are the 3-9x40 SWFA HD, the 5-20 SWFA HD, the regular ole 3-15 SWFA SS, the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x44 or the 3-14 NXS and finally a Bushnell elite tactical in one of the lower power. not really fond of super high magnification, so I am not really thrilled with the 5-20 SWFA HD.............Leaning towards the Nighforce or one of the bushy elite tactical........what say the fire? if it helps, I do have 5 of the regular SWFAs(3 6x and 2 of the 3-15's) and love those scopes. Not opposed to buying another one at all, just thinking I may want a somewhat alpha glass for this rifle

I'd personally be looking hard at the SS 3-9x, LRTS 3-12x, or SHV F1 4-14, and would likely end up with an LRTS. If you want to save some money and weight, and don't mind giving up some features, the SS 3-9x is fantastic.

Have to figure use and target size when power comes into the conversation. People shoot 1000 with open sights but their targets are like 6 foot square. How big are the targets you wanting to see and shoot? Sometimes having a little more than the old 1x per 100 yard recommendation helps with smaller targets or with spotting.
For use, will you need low power for wider FOV for hunting? Just target shooting?
A scope in the 5-25x/6-24x area is a good choice if you don't need real close hunting use. Remember you can always dial down to a lower power but if you buy scope with low power you can't dial up over it's max.

we shoot 6x out to 1k pretty easily on 10 inch steel gongs.......................10x will be plenty.........plus I already decided and have a nightforce 2.5-10 mounted and ready to be sighted in.......just waiting for it to not be 90 degrees here so I can get some range time in,
