Saw a decent Husky 640 .30/06 on GB and while it was priced decently, I've been pretty "busy" buying stuff of late, so I figured I could gratify my lust without any serious financial risk by trying the Take-a-shot feature. Wrong-a-roo; now she's mine! Has a crack just behind the tang which the seller says is stable, but if not or I can't fix it, I have a stock for it sitting idle. Comes with a Lyman Perma Center 4x and mounts.

One reason I felt compelled to bid was that the FN action is dated 1948, which means it may well be a C-ring like my F.I. .270.

i would ask what the take a shot feature is but, i am sure it will get me in trouble!

Basically it allows you to make an offer. The seller lists a set price with a "take a shot" option, they've already set a lower price they will take but it isn't shown. You make an offer - take a shot - if it's rejected it tells you, but if it's accepted it's as binding as the buy it now option or winning the auction.

It seems kind of strange to me, the seller lists a set price and then an unknown lower price they'll take. All you have to do is offer a price way lower than you think they'd ever take and then work your way up. You can stop any time if the price seems to be more than what you want to pay.

Seems to me like the seller should just list the price they'll take, although I can see that if someone makes an offer a bit lower than the list price but still higher than the secret take a shot price the seller comes out a little ahead.

I recently picked up a nice Ruger Security Six for over a hundred bucks less than the going rate with a take a shot option. I started at 20% lower then their set price and worked up five bucks at a time. Turns out they accepted a price exactly 5% lower than the advertised price.

Only if you consider vicious ridicule from dozens of internet goobers "trouble".😛

Actually, according to the instructions, the seller has 48 hours to take, reject, or ignore the offer; I don't think it's preset.

Listed as a 640. Two-position flag safety on left side, standard Mauser bolt release, slide-off floorplate, no thumbcut. Rear sight is simple spring-steel leaf held on with two screws. Front is a blade dovetailed into a ramp. Checkered birch stock with steel gripcap, plastic (Bakelite?) buttplate. Action looks identical to my 1948 FN and the Higgins 50s, except bolt is blued.

It showed up a day early, and looks better than expected, though it has a trigger pull only a mother could love, and the seller forgot the bases for the Lyman Tru Lock rings. Hope he can find them because they're scarce and pricey, and I might have to go with something else. The scope is clear but a bit worn around the edges. Sad to say, not a C-ring, but that's never been a problem, only a quirky notion.

Posting the link rather than wrestle the pic process here. Gotta go to the bottom of the page and click on the Google pic thingy to see them all.

Gotta love a genuine Mauser (well, FN) for $375. The Gen-X guy in the gun store couldn't get over how slick it cycled.

No more rifles, so help me Hannah, for the rest of the year!
