Well gents, here is ine you don't see everyday.

This is a 1932 made Marlin m39 rifle. It is chambered in .22 Short,Long and Long Rifle and has the 24" full octagon barrel. This is a "Star tang" gun which denotes a high finish gun. This rifle is in the 15,000 serial range with an "S" prefix which means it was made just before Marlin rated the guns for High Speed anmo. I have always shot standard velocity ammo in it.

The gun is 100% complete with all it's origional parts .It has about 70% of its origional metal finish and nearly 100% of an old professional stock refinish.

The rifle runs like a top and has a nice shiny bore. The metalwork has a faded silvered case colors on the reciever and most of it's barrel and mag tube bluing. It is very clean with no major rust or pitting. Still has it's origional semi buckhorn and front bead sights. The wood is sound with VERY tight inleting and no cracks. There is an old very well done repair to the stock toe. It is very hard to see unless you are looking for it and nearly invisible on the left side. The bottom pic shows the worst side veiw.

I have shot the gun enough to know it is reliable and accurate. The best I have done with the irons is 5/8" groups at 50 yards which is about as good as I can shoot iron barrel sights

My price on this gem is $950 shipped to your FFL dealer.
Payment by USPS MO only. Thanks for looking.

I have one, 17 thousand serial but it's a Deluxe, Which simply means the stock has checkering.

It's been in our family for 81 years, 3 generations have learned to shoot with it.

It is a great shooter with all the ammo we have ever used. Mine has an HS prefix. (High Speed, I believe)

There should be a Marlin guy out there who can tell about the ammo.

About the "S" / "HS" prefix and Ammo thing..

SAMMI did not come into being until 1926 I believe. It took years for cartridge chamber specs to be standardised industry wide. Marlin got around to certifying the m39s for High speed ammo use in 1933 , a year after this gun was made.

Several points-

While some collectors claim there is a difference in the breech bolt construction of the S and HS marked m39s , I have found no definitive
source that proves it. Just a lot of conjecture . The post WW1 Marlins were made of the best steels of their day ,so other than the HS markings , they appear made the same.

Also it is interesting to note that TODAY there is litterally not a nickle's worth of difference in chamber pressures between High Velocity and standard velicity 22 LR ammo. They are both just over 20, 000 CUPS .About 1,000 CUPS separate them. (5%)

So logic would dictate that as long as the rifle has good headspace issues shooting either type would be safe. I think as long as you stay away from Stinger type hypervelocity ammo , the HV stuff would be fine.

II simply shot Standard vel ammo to err on the side of caution (and accuracy)..
