It's been said quite often that the 6mm Rem was too long for a short action, but not long enough and therefore a waste of a long action. In the Remington 700, what action size do they use for the 6mm - the long or short? Question comes to mind because I bought a short action classic replacement stock and BDL floorplate assembly for my ADL a few years back. Accuracy is not as great as I'd like, but I don't seem to be having any problems with feeding.

Short. And it works just fine.

I have a couple of REM 600s in 6mm REM and they are tiny little actions. The 6mm is tight but works wonderfully.

For the 6 mm I'd go short and cram it in there for a long I'd go 6/06 and move along with ease.

Will a short action remington still function with factory ammo, or do you have to reload and seat the bullets deeper?

I really liked the 6mm Rem I built on a long action.

mine was built on a short win 70 and worked fine. my long 6mm was built on a win 70 long action. also known as the 240 Weatherby, the king of 6mms! all seriousness, the 240 is a dandy and fun to shoot.

Buy a Ruger #1 like I did!
