Well, I have to say the fresh bear loin (back strap) was absolutely delicious !

Pan seared in cast iron, 4 minutes a side & 6 minutes in a 300*f fan force oven, to an internal temp of 162*f, cover & rest for 10 minutes.

Thin sliced & served over mashed turnip (lots of butter, cracked black pepper & full (33%) cream.

Mr. jack got himself a mule deer. With the leadership of Colorado1135,(Ryan) who brought us to the deer, he made an 85yd shot. The deer ran down hill about 40’ish yards and dropped.

Shot with a Ruger American, .223 Rem, with hand loaded 55gr ttsx. It completely exploded the heart and exited lungs. It literally sprayed blood the whole time. I’m a fan of the round for sure.

I can’t say enough and be grateful enough to Ryan. He had the deer butchered and in packages in the cooler in less than 2hrs from the shot. Which was awesome! He also made us a fantastic elk roast for dinner.

That's fantastic Tom. Jack's following right in his father's footsteps. Nice of Ryan to help you guys out like that. Another one of the good guys here on the fire. Glad you guys are having a great time. Tell Jack I said job well done!

I do have pics but not enough service to post them. But....I will get some up. He used the knife I got from you a few years ago for the field dressing.

The performance of it makes me want a .223 of my own. A bigger cal. wouldn’t have done more damage. It couldn’t have performed better. There is absolutely nothing that could have been improved upon. Ryan grabbed the heart and showed us....it was actually unwound like a spring.

Thank you...but it’s really all him. He has certainly been putting in his time shooting this year. This is his 3rd deer and they’ve all been taken with different calibers. Kinda cool.

Jack did all the work to get it done. I helped where I could and enjoyed spending the day with the guys. Tom and I figured it had been 7 or 8 years since we hunted together, so this was long overdue. We scouted the morning where Tom's gonna hunt and saw a decent buck. They took me to eat at bigger and bun in Custer, which is always a treat! Jack made an awesome shot that couldn't have been better. We got it skinned out and cut up quickly because it was 65* out. Ran the trim through the grinder and vacuum sealed the fine cuts. All while sharing stories and an adult beverage 😀
It was an awesome day to say the least. Thanks Tom for the great hunt!

Does anyone know if photobucket is dicked up again. It won't upload my pics. I put them in and I get a big red sign across the top that says "unable to upload"

I hope they didn't get nuts and not allow dead animal pics now...

A little more than a week till the Minnesota deer opener. Can't wait to get up north. The bucks are chasing does as we speak. 'Hope the rut is still going strong by the opener. Good luck to all the Chickenbuckers and the rest of our Minnesota hunters. Stay safe and make some great memories.
