I have been shooting the 162 EldX in my 7mm WSM (starts out at 3060 fps) for a few years now. Finally gave it a test worth talking about (putting one in the back of an elk's head at 40 yards (well is there a 7mm bullet that will not work there) anyway this one was a good sized cow at 320 yards standing broad side the bullet entered behind the shoulder and broke one rib going in, recovered the jacket on the off side hide behind the shoulder. She made dash and side down hill about 30 yards. She is now resting in the freezer.

I do a non gut partial bone butcher so I did not remove the lungs but did take the heart out the side of the rib cage. the heart was not damaged however the lungs were mostly mush. And given that about 3 inches of the rib the bullet hit was gone it had to have fragmented and gone into the lungs. Given that she only made about 100 feet and that down a fairly steep side hill suggests massive damage to the lungs.

I was witness to a 143 ELDX from a Creed this past week. 200 yard shot, slightly quartering away. Perfect shot behind shoulder. Bullet found an inch or so under offside hide. No bone hit. Wound channel was a bit to be desired but a dead deer in 50 yards....

Make mine a 147 ELDM or 140 VLD for impacts under 2700...

I had two ELDx experiences this year.

#1) 175 grn out of a 7stw. Mature bull elk at about 150 yards. Three shots quartering hard away. All exited. One dead bull. No complaints!

#2) same load and rifle on mature muley buck. 442 yards broadside. Dead centered the ribcage. Immediate dead buck. Not even a kick. No complaints.

I was fortunate to knock down a decent antelope buck at 210yds with a 162gr ELD-x from a .280AI on Columbus day. It was a through and through shot. The bullet performed nicely through the internals and the antelope didn't take take a step. Going to take same rifle combo on elk hunt this week and hope to be as fortunate as gbp.

Are the ELD M's the same as the Amax bullet??

Essentially.

Killed a coues whitetail tonight. 6.5-284, 88 yards, 143 ELD-X. Bullet expanded and blew a 2" exit hole. Took out a lung, the big arteries above the heart and the brisket. Deer went on his nose in less than 10 feet. So far, this bullet has performed perfect.

Last year. Didn’t exit, gutless method so no necropsy.



Big bodied bstard.



162 ELDX, 7mm Rem Mag, 3030 FPS mv, 200 yards. He went about 20 feet.

Just got back from a mule deer hunt in New Mexico. Witnessed two 143 Eld-X's from 6.5 Creedmoors on mature bucks, the first a 5-6 year old taken at 311 yards. The buck was quartering away and the bullet entered the middle of the left ribs and broke the right shoulder. It was found under the hide of the shoulder, retaining 74% of its original weight. The buck jumped and kicked at impact, then went 35-40 yards, slowly, before tipping over.

The second buck was a 3-year-old, shot through both shoulders at 101 yards. He dropped right there, and the core and jacket were found about an inch apart under the hide of the far shoulder. Together they weighed 60.5% of the original weight. The jacket had peeled back slightly beyond the Interlock ring, no doubt when hitting the second shoulder.
