Had a good elk hunt in the Oregon desert and managed to find a bull on opening morning. Shot the bull with 160 Accubond hand loads out of the 7 mag at 255 yards. He soaked up three rounds before tipping over. I was using a Tikka T3X Superlite with a Athlon Midas Tac 4-16. Hit him in the right shoulder angled toward the off side. Caught two of the bullets just under the hide in front of the offside hip, and one exited. Weight retention was 72% and 60% respectively. Took a rear quarter and the head two miles over fairly moderate ground to the Polaris and then was able to drive around to within a mile of the bull. Made the pack out a little easier. Thankfully I had a couple buddies give me a hand!

Thanks! The elk are really spread out and move a lot which makes them difficult to locate. The 2 mph rock roads don't help either.... grin

That's a damn nice bull - great job! I presume that is a draw tag area in Oregon?

Five cows and a couple spikes were with him. My buddy killed one of the spikes.
