I recently was given a Colt Frontier Scout that's not in too bad shape with one exception. The previous owner lost the base pin release mechanism and replaced it with a screw. For lack of knowing the proper terminology the screw looks like something you would find holding the barrel bands together on a military rifle. The screw has been installed from the right side of the receiver with the muzzle facing away. I'm not too familiar with how the mechanism is supposed to look on this little revolver and Gunparts doesn't have the stuff to fix it - given it hasn't been screwed up. Does the condition of this sound like it's beyond repair or could it be fixed? If so, where could I get the base pin release assembly or parts? Many thanks for your help.

One thing I'd like to know is if it should be threaded on the right side?

I don't think it is supposed to be threaded at all. Sounds like yours was "customized". It might not be a problem if it was just the small inner diameter hole that was threaded. If so, chances are the factory catch will still work. Otherwise, you might need the hole sleeved to restore the original ID's. It should not be a problem for a smith who knows how to use a lathe.

Check out a Ruger single action. Very similar. Parts may work.
