Wow, you savage fanatics really are driving up prices. I am so glad no one has yet realized the value of Ruger tang safeties  If it keeps going the guns will get so expensive.. someone might make a new 99. Does Savage own the rights to the 99? What I mean is there an experation date on the patent? they wouln't be any more expensive to make than say a win 1895 do you think?

A Chic Falls F gets scoped...much better calibers and maybe 20 bucks to mount...Utica guns ... let 'em be.
I also came from the day when $0 was allowed for a scope and mount on a gun ...
oh ok maybe an extra $50 and I'll peel it off and get rid of it
any Utica gun I keep won't be for shootin'

any Utica gun I keep won't be for shootin' I agree , my Utica guns do not get shot ..... but , I have a 1949 EG ( Chicopee , MA ) that , as you know , was not drilled and tapped from birth .... I have a Stith to solve that problem ... As it stands , I only have 2 shooters , this '49 EG is one of them . I mean let's face it , the Stith is not as solid as a Weaver type set-up . There has to be play in the scope tube / Stith tube fit . You have to slide it in there . The scope is only locked in place at the rear with the ring .... not to mention you scratch the scope tube everytime you slide it out of the Stith tube ..... but I do like the way they look on the 99 . And they will always give you " minute of venison " accuracy . The other shooter/hunter I have is a 1956 " F " chambered for the .243 ..... Drilled and tapped from the factory ... friggin thing is a tack driver .

There are alot less Stith mounts for 99's - than 99's ........
