So right now I have 5 308s that are i guess mid range price wise..........I have 2 tikka T3x lites, a tikka T3X CTR, Begara B14 HMR and finally a remington 5R, all in 308. I also have a Savage 10T in 6mm creemoor. What I am mulling is this........selling all my rifles and the scopes, and getting down to a really nice 308 and alpha glass and a nice 6mm creed with alpha glass as well. I currently have a nighforce NXS 2.5-10x42 that is on my 6mm creed. I was thinking of picking up another night force NXS and buying something like a Montana Rifle company or a fieldcraft in 308 and 6mm creed and being happy with fewer guns, but better quality.........crazy or not?

Crazy? Only you can decide if that's crazy for you or not. There was a time I had multiple 270s, multiple 30-06s and multiple 308s. I sold off what I wasn't using and have no regrets. I think you'd be fine with that plan. Seems like some solid logic, you know...until the next new rifle enters the picture and the loony kicks in.

I went that way myself and never looked back at selling off the me too type rifles that line all the used racks. I read about lots of the guys here having and using lots of different rifles, but that isn't me as I like the familiarity of having my main one. Paying four numbers for a high end Euro scope offended my Scottish heritage some, but now ever time I look through one of those scopes it is like a wow experience especially in low light conditions. I guess that I wouldn't shoot them all enough to completely familiarize myself with all their idiosyncrasies and different operating systems.
My other auto is a .45

I think that's the smart play. For me, I'd rather have fewer, higher quality rifles and just spend "gun money" on hunts/trips.

It sounds rationale to me, but only you can decide if it's crazy. You'd have everything covered to hunt anything in NA with those calibers.
We have enough youth, how about a fountain of SMART???

You can only shoot one rifle and have another for a back-up, sell the rest and put the proceeds toward a hunting trip. After this fall's whitetail trip that's what I plan to do, I'm already down to one handgun and plan to get down to one RF and a couple of CF's and a shotgun.

One of those chunky 308's would be nice to have for farting around.

I would think you would be fine with doing that for one reason...you seem to enjoy those 2 calibers. Myself, I would have a hard time with it because I enjoy shooting different cartridges and some of them in HTF factory ammo. But it sounds like you would probably be fine with 2 rifles rigged out like you are talking about.

You can only shoot one rifle at a time, why not make it a nice one.

You can only shoot 1 at a time is true. But when I go to the range with 1 gun I find myself waiting for the barrel to cool more than shooting. Just my opinion .

I went through this for the last 5 years or so. I as at the point of adding another safe so that kinda forced the issue. You are entering another rabbit hole though. That NSX compact is nice, but so is a S&B, Khales, Swarovski, etc. Also if your only going to have one gun, why not go for a GAP, or TacOps, or AI, or DTA? Its a never ending cycle.
