I thought you needed camouflage and some whizbang magnum to kill a modern moose...

Very nice. Slightly jealous.

Details?

Thanks guys! I usually use a .308 or 7x57 for moose but I got this savage earlier this fall for 100$ and just had an urge to fill the freezer with it. (we don't have a freezer, we hang till winter and then thaw and butcher. This guy was frozen solid about 4 days after I got it) This is an average/small moose for around here; body and antlers. Exceptional eating! Called it in to the cabin; showed up late in the evening it was dark. So I called in the morning he came in again. I was in my pajamas smile I know this is controversial but I have been taken the past few years by the neck shot. If I am close, like under 100 yds, and the situation is good, like lots of opportunity for a follow up shot, (and you're a good shot and know your anatomy) the neck shot at the base of the skull is quite spectacular. I won't recommend it but this is how this guy went down.

Happy hunting!

I've shot many bucks over the years. Late this afternoon I accomplished my goal of taking a buck with bullets which I cast myself. I started casting this summer. Took this 6-pointer at 100 yards with my 1920 .303 Savage. I took a quick cellphone pick where he dropped after going about 30 yards. My brother-in-law took the pic with me in it after we got him out and back to the house. Headed to the shack to celebrate.

Way to go Keith, nice buck. I have several hundred pounds of Monotype, so some day I plan on casting again. I used to cast for black powder.

Where leaving Friday for WV opener next Monday. One of my neighbors farms is going up for sale, so I guess we will hike up to the top of the mountain and take a look. I'd love to buy it, but I don't have the funds for 160 acres. Good luck to every one.

Took a little walk this evening. Old faithful went along. 1957 99f in 300 topped with that Leupold M8 6x and of course 180 grain silvertip ammo. This gun loves it but deer don't. 60 yard shot, 70 yard track job and I had him.

Early doe in Livingstone. Not a Savage but it does have a lever and a rotary magazine!
