My four years in the USN (76-80) were a cakewalk, and I am not in the same category as those who actually sacrificed...those who were shot at and missed, even shot at and hit...and went right back into battle or went home under a flag, or to a hospital. My hat's off to you guys, and I am ashamed of how the country we love has treated you. I can't do a damned thing about it but I can own up to it. And for the gents of whom I write:
SALUTE!
RiverRider.....
Like you, I always feel humbled being around veterans who have served in harms way, to defend our nation's way of life, and our beliefs....
but I also have said for decades....
Each one of us who have served....
We went where we told to go and we did what we were trained to do...
We all can't be Rambo...
But putting together a few things I've heard on the radio and news reports the last couple of day, gave me the realization of a shocking fact.... the number of people who have served our nation in uniform and are still living are DRAMATICALLY OUTNUMBERED by the number of Illegal Aliens who are within our borders....
All who have served certainly are a brotherhood, regardless of their branch of service, or when they served.
it also speaks volumes about priorities of our nation and our governmental leaders...
I have not served in harms way even tho I was trained to be able to do so....but I am still proud, I stood up and served my country....I also still respect even more those that had to put it all on the line.. in harms way.
but it is a sad fact, when we as veterans are outnumbered by Illegal aliens..
We are 1 % of our nations citizens... 99% of our citizens have not served...
from me to you River.. Thank you for your service sir!.. accompanied by a Salute of Respect.
