It was awesome Tom, thank you.
Beautiful scenery, great food (& beer), shared with a great bunch of friends.
Didn't relish the 23 hour return (inc layovers) to -13*C at 1:30 sunday morning, in Thunder bay !
Quick 7 hour nap at a hotel & then 4 hour drive home !
Paul.

Truck is packed and pointed north. Leaving at daylight for camp. Opener is Thursday. We might not get any deers, but we'll eat good. Prime rib, fish boil w/whitefish, Italian sausage, and our annual fart fest = fresh smoked Kielbasa, potatoes, and kraut. Da liquor cabinet has been resupplied too. Bringing the old Model 100. She was nice to me at the range this year. 308 Federal Fusions 180s 3/4" group. When she treats me good, she gets to go to camp. We'll see how the relationship goes...she's a fickle woman.

Our weather's supposed to warm up starting tomorrow. I'm off Thursday and will be heading north to get one last hunt in. Good luck to all those headed out trying to avoid tag soup like I am.

Best of luck CFT. I will try the fusion 180's in my 88 .308 It's fair with 150's but I've been curious about a heavier bullet, I don't know what the rate of twist is.

Dave, the fusions are available in 165gr, 30 caliber too. They work in my Savage M99. 2 mooses & multiples of deers were used as test media !

Good luck gopher.
2 of the kids and I are headed to WI on Friday. They're going to go to school for a bit. I'll pick them up after things are loaded and then we'll head to Grandmas to be spoiled rotten with food and laughs.

I'll pick them up after things are loaded and then we'll head to Grandmas to be spoiled rotten with food and laughs. Thanks Tom. A slight change in plans. I talked to two of our young bucks that went back up for second weekend-they saw one set of tracks, and didn't hear a single shot in our area all weekend. Of course the wolves were howling up a storm. Gee-wonder why we're not seeing deer? I'm gonna go up to Chengwatana for a dual purpose trip. Gonna hit the range up there with my Hawkins and run a couple balls through it, and then go hunt for the rest of the day. I just can't see driving all the way up past Brainerd when we're not seeing any deer up there. I want to learn some of the more remote areas of Chengwatana any ways, so this is a good opportunity. Gonna carry my grand daughter's 99 chambered for .243. I'm hoping to bleed that gun and then hand it off to my son so he can do the same before she's old enough to carry it. ML season comes in soon, and this will probably be the only chance I get to run a couple down the tube on that gun before the opener. I'll be hunting that spot we went to in Lakeville, Tom. The patch on the left side of the trail going into the house there. He's been seeing deer in there all fall.

0730 today the .223 Ruger American cracked and Kennedy had her first ever deer down. WI had treated us well the last few years. She made a perfect shot IMO, high on the near shoulder, exiting lower on the off shoulder. The deer never took a step. Dropped stone dead. 55gr ttsx, 223 Rem.

Nice Job Tom. Those lil .223 are deadly with shots like that.

Thanks guys. K also says thanks. I also like the dragging out pic. The top one is how we walked up on it. She doesn’t live a breathe this stuff like the rest of us do so, it was hard to get a read on her but as the day went on you could tell tell she was excited. She said she wasn’t nervous because she didn’t think it was going to happen. Lol.
7mm, someone will have a hard time convincing me the .223 won’t work or is too small for deer. We have a sample of 2 from this year but man they wreck some stuff between entry and exit holes.

Glad she got a nice clean kill on that first deer Tom. Might not have enjoyed seeing one flopping around for a while. Good job Kennedy!
