Any Pappy drinkers on here? Had a bottle of the 15 last year and it was good. Trying to decide between another bottle of the same or perhaps something a little older. Have you found the 23 to be a lot better and worth the extra cost?

Unobtainum, and cant possibly be worth the price for what it is going for. I would rather buy a bottle of Blantons, Eagle Rare, Stagg, etc and take the hundreds of dollars saved and buy a scope or rifle.

I believe it was the GM of Wild Turkey said bourbon peaks at 6 years.

As to Pappy......like most Harley’s today......a fashion accessory.

Like “there are more 1/2” rifles than 1/2” shooters”

Most can’t tell the difference......especially when most are drinking for effect......a waste of money.

Try to find Blood Oath. It cheaper and much better imo. It can be ordered on line too.

Agreed. I was given some Pappys last year by business partner. For me it was like smoking a prized cigar. I don’t smoke or drink liquor so it was totally wasted. Nice gesture though.

I agree, if you don't drink liquor, a bottle of Pappy's would be a waste for you. I don't drink for effect and enjoy sipping good liquor. My question was more about the difference in taste than whether teetotalers should buy Pappy's. As to the other suggestions, Pappy's is better than Blantons but I'll need to pickup a bottle of each of the others to try.

I find it to be overpriced like most fancy whisk(e)y these days. Label consciousness and people behaving like they have more money than sense are what drive the market these days.

I miss the days of buying Highland Park 18 year old single malt when "nobody" had heard of the brand. Same for 13 year old Van Winkle Family Reserve rye at fifty bucks or so.

If you're dead set on a wheater, then yeah go for it. Otherwise, there are plenty of interesting bottles in and under your price range. Anything from Willet, the BTAC, high west MWND, Elijah Craig SiB, the list goes on. Try something new.

Pappy don't hang out in this neck of the woods. Highland Park 18 at a reasonable price would be a real find.

Before it got trendy I used to buy it for what an inflation calculator says would be $67 today, about half of the actual going rate.

Here's another one I was drinking over thirty years ago. In those days it was bottled at 7 years and was a bargain.

That would be a bargain. Actually, I would be happy with a bottle of Macallan 18 which would save a bunch over the Pappy. Last year after Thanksgiving dinner, my son and I adjourned to the deck with a bottle of Pappy and some fine cigars. I really enjoyed that and would like to do it again.

When the Saints won the Superbowl I broke out my "declared vintage" 1978 distillation season Macallan 18 and some Partagas Leviathans.

I have a bit of that bottle left, and this year I may need to break it out again. grin

Get your hands on a 30yr if you can.
