Poobs, I have enjoyed this little rifle enough that I have seriously considered ordering one in 223. I know a guy that has quite a bit of the Federal Tactical with the 55 grain TBBC. Maybe he would give me a couple boxes.

Most excellent. And you're passing down more great things than just the rifle. Well done, Joel.

Very cool. I am getting to a point where I am thinking about where certain rifles will end up, this is a great idea. I have a few rifles from friends who have passed that are extra special due to the stories/hunts that those rifles were part of. I have other guns from those same friends that are just guns that they owned and sat in their safe. You are right on with this!

If you do buy it, and he doesn't give you the ammo..let me know. I have a bunch of Speer Gold Dot 55 grainers I can hook you up with.

I think you’re on the right bloody path with that rifle. There’s a poet’s heart beating I that rough exterior. Great job!

You are all correct in your thinking, PROVIDED the kid likes the rifle as well as you and your friends do. What is not to like about a free quality gun, but will he use it?
My dad thought a 16 gauge Western Field bolt action shotgun with a screw choke was good enough for anyone. I could not have disagreed more.

Funny you mention that, jt 402 My Maternal Grandfather, who I loved, revered and followed like a pup was of the opinion that bolt action rifles were sheet. He was a WWII veteran, and believed that a semi automatic rifles was the only way to go. He traded for a Belgian Browning BAR in 30-06 and passed it down to me. I have killed exactly one deer with it. A doe who was unfortunate enough to stare at me, rather than run. I hit her with a 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip and saw her pitch forward. The devastation was amazing. and disheartening.
You are right. In the end, it is up to my Son. He will like the rifle or not.
