Does anyone have a recommendation for a quality engraver who could do a Stainless Ruger Blackhawk? I just got a set of custom walrus ivory grips made for it and they sure would look good accented with some engraving.

Thanks

Pard has had engraving done on some pistol by a fella in AZ. I could get the contact if you lie.

He had the man engrave Foghorn Leghorn on his .410 chicken revolver! smile

Go to the FEGA (Firearms Engravers Guild of America) website, there you'll find a listing of their members and their engraving specialties with contact info and their websites.

Since you live in Alaska, why not just have Jim White do it. One of the best, and lives right here.

Check this lady out.

I had the opportunity to meet Rachel and her and Fred Wells 18 years ago in Prescott. Fred has passed on but Rachel is still carrying on the tradition.
Her work is very good.

Here's a video from her website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=177&v=9Lk6kmSCQKo

A quick point... engraving is usually done on metal. Ivory can absolutely be engraved but it is usually thought of differently...

Engraving is basically carving into the media, whether metal, bone, ivory, etc.

Scrimshaw is typically done on ivory... a bunch of pin pricks and scratches filled with color.

Ivory can be checkered like wood or metal...

A typical firearm engraver is going to have experience with metal, and probably no experience with engraving ivory.

Rereading the OP I may have misunderstood what he was looking for and he might want metal engraving, rather than a little something extra on the ivory grips.

Never heard of Jim White do you have a contact # for him Kid? I've had poor luck with Alaska gunsmiths and didn't expect there to be a quality engraver located here.

Yes, I'm looking to get the metal engraved.

Thanks

He does pick up and drop offs at Great Northern on Saturday mornings. He doesn’t have a shop and takes no walk ins. Shoot him and email at the address Sitka posted and he’ll be in touch. He stays busy enough that he doesn’t advertise and doesn’t have a business phone. Very nice and talented guy.

I'll second TheKid's comments. Jim is a great guy, and does superb work. And. rather than mailing stuff off to a total stranger, who's work you've never seen, you can meet face to face with a fellow Alaskan, and see examples of his work, in hand.
