Happy thanksgiving everyone! Got a bird in the toaster and one in the smoker. Kids baked pies this morning, and are all playing ball in the driveway now. Perfect day!

Me and the boy are headed back to the woods tomorrow morning for the last WI weekend of gun season.

Got a doe in 601 this morning. Got it skinned into time for dinner. I need a nap.

That’s so exciting! I’m very happy for Cale. I bet he is still glowing.

Being with your kid on their first deer is quite an experience, isn’t it? I’ve been blessed with the chance to be with jack and Kennedy when the both shot their first.

It’s also cool when the kids get excited when we are eating their deer. They also like to cook for us if we are eating their venison.

To the Minnesota boys-I've been talking to my wife about making a run up to Lake of the Woods for a little fishing this spring or summer. Have any of you stayed up there at any of the resorts? Looking for suggestions, but we don't want to go up to The Angle.

Cyrus?

Ballard's?

Arneson's Rocky Reef?

We would just be going for a short stay, probably 2-3 days and go out on their launch boats. I doubt I'll haul my boat up there for such a short stay, and I know most of the places offer package deals for three nights lodging and two days of launch fishing. Can anyone suggest one to use, or ones we should stay away from?

Thanks, guys.

Gopher,
for a short stay, I would suggest Ballards. I have had very good luck there, the one thing with them is they let you fish, your not running downriggers, great cabins, food is the best of any of the resorts along the rainy. Great deck to sit out on either at the resort or all of the cabins as well. they run some good package deals for fishing and staying as well. All the others are good too, but this has been by far our go to place. I usually set up a trip for work every other year and we tend to do 12-15 launches for the day and they do all the food when we get back and its well worth it. They do have a pool outside as well to chill out if you want too. I am up there every weekend and was just there last weekend as well. We ice fish out of ballards as well a few times during the winter. cyrus is a great place too, just a lot farther from more action up there during the summer. and arensons is a beautiful place but your limited over that way as well. any questions just give me a shout. good luck to you

Buschy-thanks for your input. I'm not interested in downrigger fishing. I will definitely take your advice. Thanks for passing on your knowledge of the area resorts up there.

Not sure if I will be doing any hunting at all, not real excited about it. been way too much going on this year, lost a lot of interest. trying to move and everything at the new place seems like just one more project again. my boys got 3 deer this year so far so not sure I need any more. I smoked some summer sausage sunday for them. A lot of extra remodeling needing to get done and things I cant get done myself there is really whats bothering me. Feels like no time and everything is a rush to everyone else.
