I’m no beer snob, but I always liked Pete’s Wicked Winter brew.
Is that gay? If you have to ask..... Hmm. Guess I’ll keep an eye out for a .270

Had a coffee milk stout yesterday that was out o this world. About 9.5 % ABV or so. It was like coffee beer candy. Got a specific brewer on this one? Thanks

Sam, that's because Miami only has two seasons: Summer and night. Visit me in Utah (please do!) some December and you'll understand porters and stouts. the absolutely nastiest stuff I ever tried to drink was Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Tasted like week old beer that someone put out a cigar in. I do like some of the Belgium ales though. and Broadway Brewery out of Kansas City makes a farm house style Belgium ale, Tank7, that is outstanding.

South Shore Brewery in Ashland, WI makes a nut brown ale that is really good for winter drinking. I always fill up the truck with it on the way home from grouse camp each year.

Me, too. The only "specialty" beers I buy are the Octoberfest brews. Sam Adams and Leinenkugel make good ones. Winter beers? Nah. Liable to have leftover pumpkin spice or something equally dreadful. Ditto the Spring ones with berries and flowers and such. Metrosexual beers.
I've had spruce beer, and while it isn't in my "faves" list it wasn't all that unpalatable - in a vaguely Pinesol kind of way. Those 2 do make awesome Oktoberfest brews. Sam Adams Winter Lager is a decent winter beer. I really prefer the stuff brewed locally, but unless I feel liking making the drive in to Lexington, I have to settle for what the local stores have, which as far as winter beers go, the Sam Adams is about it.

Sam Broadway or Boulevard brewing in KC? Boulevard makes Tank 7. I hear it's delicious, but it's always gone by the time I get to my brothers to sample.

I’m with Rocky Raab on this one. Kenai River Brewing has a seasonal called Winter Warlock. It is a double bock that is very good. They make a great scottish aptly called Skilak Scottish. It is stout and malty but not overly so. I too like the Deschutes Black Butte Porter. Darker and robust works just fine, yep!

Lately I've been enjoying Dirty Bastard from Founders Brewing. Heavy, rich and complex, 8.5% ABV I believe. Definitely cold weather stuff, not suitable for a crab boil in warm weather.
